Posted on
Canberra’s biggest celebration of agriculture, rural life and community spirit is back! That’s right, the Royal Canberra Show is returning from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 February.
Catering to the whole community with activities for thrill seekers, interactive spaces for kids, endless food and drink options, arts and crafts, show-bags and much more; the event where country meets city lights is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, and it’s not hard to see why.
With so much happening, we’ve found 10 things you can’t miss at the 2025 Royal Canberra Show – from the return of show jumping to some brand-new events. We promise there’s something for the whole family.
And remember children under six have free entry!
Showjumping
After its hiatus, the long-anticipated sport of Showjumping is making a comeback to the Royal Canberra Show. With a feature event from three-time national junior champion Tom McDermott at 2 pm on Saturday 22 February, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
But why just watch this event when you could have a go and participate yourself? Enter the EQ Saddlery Hobby Horse competition. Here young riders can join in the fun and tackle a mini-Showjumping course of their own, and for the best part; it’s free! So, make sure you bring your kids down once they’ve been inspired by the experts.
Kids Giggle and Games Arena
This brand-new attraction will be one your kids will love! Designed specifically for their entertainment, with free interactive games and hands-on activities, there are bound to be plenty of laughs and signs of enjoyment. Supported by Dickson Tradies and the ACT Government, you can expect to see rugby and basketball games with sports stars, creative play zones and even balloon workshops.
Pickleball
If you haven’t heard of the world’s fastest-growing sport yet, don’t worry, you’ll know it by the end of the Canberra Show. A blend of tennis, badminton and table tennis; this sport is suitable for all ages and skill levels. With both adults and children being able to try their hand at this for free, why not come and see why this sport is taking the world by storm?
The Chicken and the Fox
This all-new event will be one full of action-packed visuals for all members of the family. From daring chases to clever stunts and comedic twists, this quad bike show is one you won’t want to miss. Taking place at 12 pm, 1 pm and 7 pm in the main area, head along to see who will win.
Sideshow Ally
If you’re a thrill seeker, then Sideshow Ally is the place for you. With an array of rides for those who are truly daring, to those with little ones who are looking for something calmer; Sideshow Alley has it all! Be sure to bring your friends and family along, a thirst for excitement, and an empty stomach if you aren’t one for flips and spins.
Pavilions by the dozen
If rides aren’t your thing, don’t fret, there are plenty of creative alternatives to see throughout the pavilions. Here you can immerse yourself in the creative handmade goods by local community members, check out the art and photography competition, participate in craft and pottery classes and of course the fan favourite – the show-bag pavilion. There is plenty to see and buy, so make sure you tell your kids to save their pocket money!
Piglet racing
A highlight of the Canberra Show is, of course, the beautiful animals, and this year things have become a lot more immersive. Children can now take part in the cuteness overload that is piglet racing by naming one of the piglets participating in the race! Here if your piglet wins, you will receive a ribbon and be crowned a champion along with your little counterpart. You can find these pink babies on the kids’ gaming grounds.
Sheep shearing
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to shear a sheep, now is the opportunity to give it a go. You can come and participate in sheep shearing with a professional shearer to see how wool is collected from these beautiful animals. You can find shows in the Mallee Pavilion.
“Mum, I’m hungry”
Don’t worry about what to do for lunch or snacks throughout the day, because the Canberra Show has you covered on all fronts. With over four areas designated for food, you won’t be leaving hungry.
Here are some options available across the weekend:
-
World Flavours Food Court
Here you can indulge in all the different flavours and cuisines from around the world. Think Turkish, Asian, Italian and German options, just to name a few.
