Peacemaker winning awards, giving away cowboy hats and spicing up Mother’s Day

If the mum in your life is more likely to rate 12-hour smoked Brisket smothered in BBQ sauce over smoked salmon sandwiches, and happily swap tea for a Whiskey Sour, then you need to get her to Peacemaker.

The Western-style saloon from the team who brought you award-winning speakeasy Volstead Repeal is running a special Mother’s Day BBQ High Tea that will require hearty appetites and encourage mums to wear denim over florals because no one should eat juicy pork ribs in silk.

Owners Stu Inger and Allen Chen have been kept busy running Peacemaker and Volstead (both on Mort Street in Braddon) as they have made their mark on both the local and national bar scene.

Volstead came first, offering award-winning cocktails from a dark and intimate speakeasy tucked away in the Yamaroshi Building.

Peacemaker is loud and proud on the city end of the street, decked out in full cowboy regalia and drawing a steady crowd for its Southern-inspired bar offerings and homestyle BBQ menu.

Stu says he and his team have been blown away by the enthusiasm for Peacemaker, which turns one next month.

Just last month they were surprised (so surprised they had no speech ready) to be awarded the 2025 Australian Small Business Champion Award in Sydney. This comes on top of a slew of gongs for Volstead.

So given the boys are feeling the love, and it’s almost Peacemaker’s first birthday, they are spreading the joy with a “Hat-ppy Hour”. This means from Monday to Thursday next week (5-8 May) between 6 and 7 pm, everyone who buys a cocktail will leave the bar wearing their very own complimentary cowboy hat.

“We wanted to do something a bit fun and to say thank you to all our loyal clientele and to those who are just discovering us,” says Stu.

“We already have a fairly energetic atmosphere in the bar so we figured the cowboy hats would add to the vibe.”

Meanwhile, mum’s who are adept at wrangling bucking broncos, sorry, children, may want to grab a seat to Peacemaker’s BBQ High Tea.

On May 11, Peacemaker will plate up healthy servings of their entire BBQ range for mums with high spirits and a taste for the Wild West.

Think tender juicy slabs of Brisket, smoked for 12 hours, Pork Ribs smoked for four hours and covered in house-made dry rub, Burnt Ends of Brisket soaked in brown sugar and house-made BBQ sauce, and 4-hour Smoked Chook, dry rubbed and served whole.

All meat is accompanied by coleslaw and cornbread and Mum may indeed need that complimentary Whiskey Sour or Clover Club (or expertly made mocktail of course) to wash it all down.

Stu said it was a huge departure from traditional Mother’s Day fare and it would go down a treat with mums who loved Southern food and a pub with energy.

“Our food had proven to be extremely popular so we don’t doubt this will be a welcome Mother’s Day event for many.”

Priced at just $45 and with only 30 servings available we would kindly suggest you saddle up your fastest speed and gallop down to make sure you get there on time as slowpokes who mosey will surely miss out.

There are no tickets, so just show up at the door with first in best dressed.

And don’t forget to grab your hat and cocktail next week!
