The snot-so-serious comedy show that will have Canberra families in stitches

Posted on

There’s nothing quite like the sound of children’s laughter – especially when it’s accompanied by the horrified-yet-delighted gasps of their parents.

Enter Mr Snotbottom, the self-proclaimed “Prince of Putrid” and “Willy Wonka of Weird,” who’s bringing his gloriously gross comedy show to The Q on Friday 18 July, and frankly, we couldn’t be more ex-snot-ed.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you combine a professional comedian’s wit with every bodily function joke your kids have ever giggled about, wonder no more. Mr Snotbottom delivers exactly what’s promised on the tin – a “hysterically disgusting” 50-minute rollercoaster of tasteless tunes, gross-out gags, and delightfully wrong routines that’ll have the whole family laughing until their sides split (hopefully not literally).

The genius of performer Trenwith’s creation lies not in shock value alone, but in his understanding of what truly brings families together – the universal language of silly.

“The show is for parents and children to enjoy together,” he explains. “It’s not that there’s jokes for parents that go over the littlies’ heads, rather there’s hilarious routines and songs about family relationships so everyone is laughing at each other and with each other.”

With song titles like “Ghost In My Loo,” “Smart About Farts,” and “I Lived in Your Guts,” it’s clear that subtlety isn’t exactly Mr Snotbottom’s strong suit – and that’s precisely the point. This is comedy that celebrates the wonderfully weird world of childhood imagination, where the grosser something is, the funnier it becomes.

The show has already earned its stripes on the festival circuit, receiving a Best Children’s Event nomination at FRINGE WORLD Festival in 2020 and collecting five-star reviews along the way. Glam Adelaide called it “multi-generational comedy for all…this show is a must see,” while Kiddo Mag praised it as having “all the best elements you’d hope for in kids entertainment.”

Behind the green slime and cheeky songs lies a performer with fifteen years of stand-up experience and a genuine understanding of what children need. Trenwith developed the show while working as ‘Captain Starlight,’ a superhero who visits children’s hospitals around Australia. “Children are far more resilient than we give them credit for,” he reflects. “It’s really taught me how much a sense of humour can bring strength and energy into times of difficulty.”

That philosophy transforms what could be simple toilet humour into something more meaningful – a celebration of laughter’s power to unite families and help us all remember not to take ourselves too seriously. After all, in a world that often feels too grown-up and serious, sometimes we all need permission to be a little bit gross and a lot silly.

So whether you’re five or 55, prepare to embrace your inner weirdo when Mr Snotbottom hits The Q. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you about the songs that’ll be stuck in your head for weeks – though we suspect that’s rather the point.
