Thrive: the free pre-pregnancy workshop helping you step confidently into parenthood
Posted on
Motherhood is often described as one of life’s most magical transformations — a time filled with anticipation, hope, and profound change.
Yet for many, the path to parenthood comes with its share of emotions, uncertainties, and curiosity about what lies ahead.
That’s why obstetrics and gynaecology practice Canberra Women & Babies is hosting Thrive: A Pre-Pregnancy Workshop on Saturday 15 November — a free event designed to empower individuals and couples with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need as they prepare for pregnancy.
What to Expect at Thrive

Created by Specialist Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Dr Drew Marshall and Adj. A/Professor and Public Health Physician Kushani Marshall, Thrive offers practical insights into physical, emotional, and reproductive wellbeing. Attendees will receive expert guidance on everything from nutrition and movement to mental health and fertility, all in an open, supportive environment.
Partners in both life and practice, Drew and Kushani founded Canberra Women & Babies to provide a compassionate, holistic space for families seeking care before and after pregnancy. Thrive brings their philosophy to life — combining health and medical expertise with empathy, connection, and community.
“We want to create a space where women can ask questions, learn, and feel seen,” says Drew. “Preparing for pregnancy isn’t just about taking vitamins — it’s about nurturing your whole self.”
Building a Supportive Community

Drew and Kushani are passionate about shining a light on matrescence — the remarkable transformation that takes place when a woman becomes a mother. They believe that too often, women are left to navigate this transition alone, and hope Thrive will help change that.
“Becoming a mother is one of the most powerful journeys there is,” says Kushani. “We want women and new parents to know they’re not alone — that there’s a community ready to support them every step of the way.”
By normalising the physical, emotional, and social changes that accompany motherhood, Thrive aims to help women move from simply coping to truly thriving.
“The more open we are about this transformation, the less isolating it becomes,” Kushani adds. “Our goal is to help women step out of survival mode and into a place of strength and connection.”
Helping Families Thrive

Thrive is perfect for individuals and couples planning to start or grow their family within the next six to 12 months. The workshop will feature a diverse team of passionate professionals committed to helping families prepare mind, body, and heart for parenthood:
- Dr Drew Marshall – Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Canberra Women & Babies
- Emma Bowen – Women’s Health Physiotherapist, NOKA Physiotherapy
- Dr Vithya Indrakumar – Women’s Health GP, Brindabella Medical Centre
- Georgina Farrell – Perinatal Psychologist, Wonderbump Psychology
- Ellen Bruce – Fertility & Pregnancy Dietitian, Ellevate Nutrition
- Dr Fiona Bell – Specialist Paediatric Dentist, Canberra Paediatric Dentistry
Together, they’ll share evidence-based insights and compassionate advice to help attendees prepare for one of life’s most rewarding experiences.
With limited spots and afternoon tea included, Thrive is as much about connection as it is about education — a celebration of women’s wellness and community in Canberra.
“This is about raising awareness, sharing wisdom, and honouring the incredible process of becoming a mother,” says Kushani.
“We want women to feel supported, informed, and inspired.”
