The Forage – celebrating Canberra’s finest food, wine and musicians

The Canberra food scene has exploded in recent years, with definite ‘precincts’ amplifying the divide between ‘north and south’. The Hipster War is being fought between Lonsdale Street and New Acton, with Kingston Foreshore starting to put the pressure on. But a new addition is looking to bring the city’s disparate neighbourhoods together, showcasing the best seasonal food Canberra has to offer.

Creator, Belinda Neame (who some may know as former owner of charming Gold Creek cupcakery, Cherry Seed, and owner of vintage caravan I Am Norma), says The Forage will be a collaboration of Canberra’s ‘foodie’ scene.

“We will be roving the streets of the ACT, bringing our community together and showcasing our finest cafes, restaurants, street and mobile food vendors, wineries, breweries and musicians,” she says.

“We plan to source locations that suit our envisaged aesthetic, and will be looking into venues, streets, parkland, wineries and other iconic spots around town.”

With a focus on seasonal food, Belinda says The Forage will be unique, fun and welcoming, with an emphasis on ‘style’. It’s appropriate, given the first event will be held in conjunction with funky Twilight markets, Hustle& Scout, at the NewActon Precinct from 3-8pm on Saturday 12 April.

“NewActon has a wonderful community vibe and the event will be a fantastic opportunity for a night out – food meets fashion!

“Gather your friends, try loads of yummy food in between shopping stints at Hustle&Scout and maybe catch a movie at the end of the night. There’ll be rows of fairy lights, live music, glasses of wine, hay bales and friends…what more could you want?”

With names such as Mr Papa, Lu’mon Macarons, The Fix, Four Winds Vineyard, and Sweet Bones Bakery among the vendors already on board, The Forage is set to be a foodie event not to be missed.
