Our local shops are a charming part of Canberra culture and our new series, Hidden Gems, will be highlighting some of the wonderful independent stores around town. They may be off the main path but they’re well worth the look.

Our next hidden gem is a little sparkler in the boutique goldmine that is Manuka — Gertrude Boutique — Canberra’s exclusive Furla supplier and women’s handbag paradise.

Gertrude prides itself on bespoke and customisable products, perfect for adapting an item­­ to suit your needs. With a boutique establishment comes a boutique approach and Gertrude is no different, providing personable, friendly service.

Owners Maree Peaty and Kerry Andrew take you to Italy (without the price of an airfare), sourcing all products personally and importing back to Australia. Why? It’s about the quality. They believe that Italian products, especially Furla, are made with the highest quality leather and design detailing.
