Canberra student smashing the charity game

Posted on

Year 10 Canberra Girls Grammar School student Lizzie Coper-Jones is giving back to her chosen charity tonight.

In collaboration with Cricket ACT and Canberra Girls Grammar School and as part of a school project, Lizzie has organised a charity cricket game to raise funds for Batting for Change.

“Other school projects I have done in the past haven’t had an impact on the real world,” she explains. “The school has provided me with the perfect opportunity to make a difference.”

Taking place at Canberra Girls Grammar School tonight, the event will feature a local line-up of talented young cricketers, Lizzie included. There will also be a special guest player from Sydney.

Kicking off from 5 pm, not only will the evening include a good old game of cricket, but it will also feature a sausage sizzle, a raffle, baked goods for sale and the opportunity to support a very worthy cause.

Batting for Change was founded by former cricketer Ryan Carters, and supports and assists the education of disadvantaged women in the developing world. He developed the foundation during 2013 in conjunction with The LBW Trust.

Lizzie says the aim of the event is to promote the message behind Batting for Change, raise funds for the charity and provide up-and-coming Canberra cricketers with an opportunity to showcase their talent.

“Education is one of the most powerful tools in the modern world,” she says. “Having an education in a developing nation transforms lives, especially for women.”

They will be raffling off some exciting prizes, including Batting for Change merchandise, one-on-one cricket coaching sessions and a custom made cricket bat signed by indoor cricket legend Vinesh Bennett.

Entry to the event will be free, but best to bring along some cash to donate the Batting for Change in the form of a sausage sizzle or some raffle tickets.

Visit the event page for more information on the event, or to register for a ticket.
