Five of the best walks in Canberra for an early morning stroll
Posted on
With cooler temperatures and softer light, taking an early morning stroll in the summer is a fantastic way to start the day in summer.
Especially when it means you’ve already done your daily movement when the temperatures soar and the UV is at its highest.
Helping you to boost your energy, improve your mood and beat the heat, here are five Canberra walks to squeeze into your morning.
Bridge to Bridge around Lake Burley Griffin
The Bridge to Bridge is the quintessential Canberra walk. Take advantage of the early morning light, soak in the views and enjoy walking alongside the lake as you get your movement in for the day.
With plenty of places for a pit stop along the way – including coffee from Margot – need we say more?
Yerrabi Pond
Taking just under an hour, a stroll around Yerrabi Pond is a great way to kick-start your day. Great for dog owners (with your furry friends welcomed on-leash), there are plenty of paved walkways around the pond, along with the choice of multiple routes and shortcuts depending on your schedule.
Mount Ainslie
Taking a minimum of an hour, with this walking track you can choose to either climb to the summit or walk around the base (depending on how keen you are).
You might just bump into someone you know, or even a Member of Parliament (for some reason they all seem to do an early morning walk up Mount Ainslie on a sitting day), and once you reach the War Memorial you can even cut through to Braddon and grab a toasted cheese sandwich and a coffee from Barrio or somewhere else close by in the city.
The Ginninderry Conservation Corridor
Offering a range of distances to suit various fitness (and enthusiasm) levels, the trails in the Ginninderry Conservation Corridor offer some fresh excitement for those seeking something a little bit different.
Building upon the popular Strathnairn to Shepherds Lookout Walk, choose your loop (which ranges from 3.4 km to 4 km one way) and soak in the natural surrounds. It’ll be a while before you get bored of the views.
Mount Painter Summit Walk
The perfect walk for when you don’t have much time but still want to get some steps in, this walk is located in the Belconnen suburb of Cook and is something of a local favourite.
Taking approximately an hour to complete, it has stunning views over Mount Ainslie and Black Mountain, lookout spots where you can soak in the beauty around you, and is even dog friendly!
