Once again, we’ve joined with some of Canberra’s best studios, instructors and experts to bring you a day bursting with all things health, fitness, and wellness.
Last year we held our inaugural event at The Social Club, and had so many ladies (and men) join us that we were practically spilling down the tiled steps into Green Square! This time around we’ve moved to the ANU Pop-Up Village—which means more space for you, more healthy food options, and some special new additions.
WHAT’S ON OFFER
10.15 – 11 am: Kitten Yoga presented by Flossie’s Kitten Rescue and SOULution Yoga
Yes, you read that correctly—it’s a yoga session in the company of eight tiny kittens from Flossie’s Kitten Rescue, led by SOULution Yoga’s Isabel Perry.
Some of the kittens are up for adoption (they’ll be marked with an itty bitty purple bandana) so if you happen to fall in love with a furry friend (who could blame you?) you can chat to Kath from Flossie’s about giving a kitten a forever home.
We’re also giving a portion of ticket sales to Flossie’s Kitten Rescue so they can continue their amazing work.
11.15 am – 12 pm: Hip Hop New 2 Dance with Dance Central
Dance Central is one of our all-time favourite dance studios—and they’re on the rise, having recently expanded their studio in Phillip.
If you’re new to dance or hip hop or haven’t danced in a long time, then this is the class for you! This ever-evolving style is one of the most popular classes at Dance Central. Instructor Carissa Meyer will take you through 45 minutes of great vibes and fun. Learn a few moves you can take to the dance floor or living room. Your blood will be pumping and those endorphins will be rushing around for the rest of the day.
Every attendee will receive a complimentary Share The Love Pass, giving you access to free classes for a whole week at Dance Central as well as wristbands, bottled water, and merchandise for the first lucky 10 people to show up on the day. Show up in your activewear, or feel free to swag it up an oversized t-shirt, some leggings, and casual sneakers.
12 – 1 pm: Cooking demonstration at Coffee Lab
We’re all well aware that Coffee Lab’s ANU and city locations make a phenomenal brew—but did you know that they also make the most divine, nutrient-packed Buddha Bowls? Learn how to make your very own Buddha Bowl at home with this free cooking demonstration—there’ll also be a sweet treat.
1 – 1.45 pm: Project Strength and Conditioning with Project Fitness
Project Fitness are well known in Canberra for their amazing facilities, great community, and friendly, qualified instructors. They’re bringing a slice of the action to ACTIVE Day, with a comprehensive strength and conditioning class that assists you with everything from everyday tasks to increasing overall performance. This introductory class includes strength training, conditioning and mobility.
2 – 2.45 pm: CODE PEACH with Nicole Leadbeatter
Nicole is both a fitness model and a Hale Gym personal trainer (and our girl crush). One thing’s for sure: she knows how to build a booty. Join her for a 45-minute session that’s all about working your peach. There’ll be glute activation drills, a lower body conditioning workout, and a mat finisher targeting glutes and abs.
Nicole is a former natural bodybuilding competitor with a number of bikini titles at the state and national level. These days, her focus is on strength and functional training. She’s also worked both in Australian and LA as a swimsuit and fitness model. She’s as much about mental health as physical health, and her passion is to help people—especially women—overcome body image and confidence issues through finding joy in exercise.
3 – 3.45 pm: Mindful Relax – Meditation Class with Deanne Brennan
In case getting your om on with tiny, fluffy kittens isn’t chilled enough for you, we’re finishing the day off with two blissful, guided meditations led by Deanne Brennan of Thinkoutloud.
Deanne will help you bring awareness to your entire body, get quiet and check in with yourself. There’ll be imagery and a progressive relaxation to get you in a state of deep calm, so you can leave feeling refreshed, relaxed and inspired.
It wouldn’t be ACTIVE Day without a steady supply of delicious healthy food—and the vendors at the ANU Pop-Up Village are supplying the goods, offering special healthy ACTIVE Day menu items in addition to their standard offerings at affordable prices. With everything from Tikka Stand to What the Pho, there’s bound to be something that tickles your tastebuds. Keep your eyes out for an ACTIVE Day food-specific editorial in the coming days!
We know that health is about more than just fitness—which is why we’ve got a whole bunch of offerings to get you feeling good from the inside out. With such a huge line-up of classes to get you sweating, your muscles will no doubt cry for some TLC. Soothe them with Evolve Yoga’s free massage tasters, or stop in at Myogen for a free massage or Normatec recovery session.

Most classes are $10 each, with Kitten Yoga priced at $15 so we can send a good proportion of the proceeds to Flossie’s!
We haven’t offered an all-day ticket this time (purely because we’re Eventbrite gumbies and can’t figure out how to manage our individual class capacity if we do), but if you DO sign up for all sessions, there’ll be a little somethin’ somethin’ for you on the day as a thank you.
