Meet the ACTIVE Expert Panel

When it comes to fitness and health, there’s certainly no shortage of information out there.

Whether it’s YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, blogs or magazines, it seems everyone is jumping on the wellness bandwagon, sharing their thoughts and advice on everything from nutrition to hormonal health.

Having a platform to discuss personal experience and opinions is wonderful, but as a reader and consumer, the sheer amount of information can be utterly overwhelming.

How do you know who to trust?

That’s exactly why we’ve put together the HerCanberra ACTIVE Expert Panel: six health professionals across Canberra who are experts in their fields.

Some of our panel members have been writing for HerCanberra since the beginning, while others are fresh and welcome additions. Each of them will be lending their expertise on issues important to Canberra women.

Without further adieu, allow us to introduce you to our Expert Panel.

Kate Freeman, Nutritionist

Kate Freeman is a Registered Nutritionist and the founder and managing director of The Healthy Eating Hub. Kate has a a Bachelor of Nutrition from the University of Canberra and a Masters in Nutrition from Deakin University. Kate’s healthy eating philosophy is all about whole, fresh foods, being realistic about life and creating long term healthy eating habits. She doesn’t believe in detoxes, fad diets or quick fixes. Kate is passionate about helping her clients consistently eat well for the rest of their life!

 

Kirra Rankin, Rehabilitation Exercise Physiologist

Kirra Rankin is the owner and innovator of Capital Hydrotherapy in Deakin and Majura Park. Kirra is a Rehabilitation Exercise Physiologist with additional qualifications in Massage therapy, Coaching (Level II) and Pilates. She is also the founder of Animalates (“Pilates for children with an animal theme”) which is a children’s movement program now based in London. Kirra loves being creative with her exercise programming and enjoys thinking outside the box.

 

Andrea Murray, Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr Andrea Murray is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and co-founder of wellbeing studio here. Based on principles of slow living and mindfulness, the studio offers wellbeing services for the brain and body including yoga, psychology and Pilates. Andrea believes in the preventative nature of psychology and uses mindfulness-based therapies to work collaboratively with children, young people and adults to reduce stress and build resilience in their lives.

Dr Kelly Teagle, General Practitioner

Dr Kelly Teagle lives in Canberra with her two children. She graduated from UQ Med School in 2001, is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and holds postgraduate qualifications in Women’s Health. Kelly is also the Principal of WellFemme Women’s Health Services and offers private consultations via the Annie Lim Group Family Practice in Deakin.

Kate Speldewinde, Women’s Health Physiotherapist

Kate Speldewinde completed her Master of Physiotherapy in 2012 and has been working in private practice where she developed a special interest in Women’s Health. Kate has completed additional studies in Women’s Health Physio as well as commencing a Postgraduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy through the Uni of Melbourne.  Kate is passionate about improving the lives of women with pelvic floor dysfunction and addressing the stigma and myths that are often associated with incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. Becky Bergman Fleming, Personal Trainer

Becky Bergman is ridiculously passionate about health and wellness. She started out in advertising then launched her own business which she now runs from Canberra. She’s a qualified personal trainer who specialises in HIIT and functional training and loves to blog about all things fitness. In her spare time she can usually be found brunching in her activewear, playing with her puppy or invoking her inner DIY goddess. Follow her on Instagram @becky_bergman.
