Now in its third year, the Spoke Up program will aim to change Canberra women’s…
For many of us, things like Pilates, yoga and barre fall firmly on our ‘wellness wish lists’ (read: things we’d like to do but that are too expensive/exclusive/inconvenient)—but there’s a new brand on the cusp on launching that’s shaking up the wellness game.
GROUNDUP is the latest launch from Viva Leisure, the Canberra-born group behind brands like Club Lime and hiit republic.
With the first studio opening its doors in Belconnen on Monday 5 July (and one in Yarralumla coming soon), GROUNDUP is reshaping the wellness experience from, well, the ground up.
“GROUNDUP extends on our current offering, but also opens up a new dimension of health and wellness,” says Harry Konstantinou, Viva Leisure CEO and Managing Director.
“We’ve seen a huge shift in consumer demand from both our members and the wellness sector more broadly. We’ve identified a gap between fitness and mental wellbeing and are excited to offer an experience that benefits the mind and body, striking a balance between rest, overall health, and performance.”
The opening couldn’t arrive at a better time, as the stress of the pandemic has left many of us struggling with a loss of motivation and focus (that ‘blah’ feeling that the New York Times identified as languishing) and searching for a solution. While the words ‘self-care’ once meant bubble baths and incense, they now translate to rest, recovery and mindfulness, as well as cultivating a genuine, meaningful feeling of wellness.
Rather than prescribing a generic, one-size-all approach to health, GROUNDUP is built on the principle of establishing your own personal practice through their line-up of classes.
“GROUNDUP’s signature blend of reformer and mat Pilates, yoga and barre is designed to enhance performance from the barbell to the boardroom through benefits like stress management, core strength, posture and injury prevention,” says Konstantinou.
The timetable offers a balance between classes designed to strengthen, sculpt and make you sweat (think reformer and mat Pilates, barre and hot yoga) and those designed to help you relax and take a weight off (like mellow yoga).
GROUNDUP differs from your usual boutique studio not only in its approach, but its membership base—many of whom are looking for a way to recover from their workouts, help prevent burnout or stop themselves from getting injured.
The mixed membership base and inclusive community is just one of the ways that GROUNDUP is making wellness more accessible.
Then there’s the studio itself. A stunning, light-filled space designed to help you check in and chill out, the large studio features a monochrome colour palette, herringbone timber flooring, and terrazzo tiles. Rather than hustling to get in and out, it tempts you to linger for a while and enjoy a moment of calm.
In lieu of paying $30 or more for a single Pilates, yoga, or barre class, the studio is offering 60+ classes a week for just $39.90 a week. Love your gym or hiit workouts? You can even add GROUNDUP to your existing Club Lime or hiit republic membership so you have every workout at your fingertips.
Keen to sign up? Use the promo code HERCANBERRA for a multi-club membership that gives you unlimited access to GROUNDUP, hiit republic and Club Lime for just $54.95 per week – a sweet saving of $260 per year.
You’ll also score a VIP pack that includes a GROUNDUP gym bag, towel, and drink bottle—plus entry to the exclusive launch event on Saturday 3 July. You’ll have to be quick, this offer expires 11.59 pm Thursday 1 July.
