Sip, cycle, shake and celebrate

Picture this: it’s a balmy Friday in December, you’ve strapped on your heels and you’re drinking cocktails with your girlfriends.
There may be a DJ and a bar, but this isn’t your standard girl’s night out. For starters, you’re rocking leggings and a sports bra, you’ve swapped a clutch for your gym bag packed with sneakers, and you’re ready to get a sweat on.
Have you figured it out yet?

It’s ACTIVE Night, and it’s the ultimate fitness celebration on Friday 14 December at ANU Pop-Up Village.

ACTIVE Day is always one of our favourite times of the year. As ACTIVE Editor, there’s nothing I love more than meeting our readers and joining with some of Canberra’s best and brightest instructors to throw an epically sweaty, fun day of all things ACTIVE.
This time, we’re mixing it up. We know it’s the end of the year, we’re all feeling a touch exhausted and what we really need is to let our hair down, have a drink and a spin on the dancefloor.

Don’t get us wrong – we’ll still be getting ACTIVE. But this time, we’re turning down the lights, turning up the volume and strapping ourselves in(to a spin bike) to party one last time before we ring in 2019.
First things first, we’re going to teach you how to twerk.

We’ve enlisted the help of Canberra’s very own twerking queen, Becky Fleming of Kokoloco to lead a Beginner’s Twerking Workshop.
Even if, like me, your signature dance moves look more like this:

We’ll have you popping your booty in no time. First, we’ll go through a breakdown of individual twerk moves before we launch into some fun choreography with moves we’ve learned throughout the class. Along the way, you can expect some squatting, lunging, and strength work to get you really feeling your glutes in the best possible way.

Next, Dance Central’s Thea Kabadanis will take to the stage. Fierce as Queen Bey and with as much sass as Rihanna, Thea’s dance style is all about having a good time and feeling yourself.

Her Heels Dance Class will focus on improving confidence, building strength, having fun and embracing you ‘Sasha Fierce’. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced dancer, this class is for all abilities and skill levels. Plus, MOLO Live are on hand to provide you with some liquid courage if you need it.

Never fear though, it’s a judgement-free zone where you get let loose and be yourself.
By this stage, you’ve worked up a sweat, you’ve got your girls and you’re feeling great – there’s only one thing missing.

We hear you. It’s not a party without the food, and the ANU Pop Up Village have all the sustenance you need. Whether you’re ‘keeping it clean’ and are after a nourish bowl from Coffee Lab, or looking to face plant into a big, juicy burger and fries from Brod, we’ve got it covered. Split up, grab your grub, and reconvene under the fairy lights on the sprawling deck.

Sufficiently refuelled, you’re ready to take on the next stage of the evening: shopping. Some of Canberra’s best local activewear designers are set to help you stock up your fit kit. Check out activewear from Girls Sweat Too, Fuerza Apparel, ExFit Store, and We Are Found Active. The lovely, ultra-fit Jess Bryce from Feather and Barb will also be on hand with her stunning designs for strong women. Whether you’re Christmas shopping for your fit friends or treating yourself, you’re bound to find the perfect piece (or five).

Our final act is a real goodie – we’ve teamed up with the crew at Club Lime to host Psycle Disco – a sweaty, moody, party in the saddle that lasts for 45 intense minutes. We’ll ride together in a dark disco-lit room set to the rhythm of not one, but two live DJs.

Those MOLO Live drinks might have you thinking you’re seeing double, but it’s just the Soul Sistas’ Collective.

Identical twins DJ Fresh Princess and DJ Lipgloss will keep you entertained with their energized performance and fresh tunes.
Just because the workouts finished, doesn’t mean the party’s over. Stay and have a few drinks with the HerCanberra community, or grab your gals and head out to the city and keep the night alive.
Tickets are selling out fast, so to make sure that we can save you a spin bike or a spot on the dance floor, book your ticket ASAP!
