Sound CBR brings Pilates, matcha, DJs and more to Barton

The much-loved women’s health, physiotherapy and Pilates studio is raising awareness around breast cancer, one Pilates pulse at a time.
Since it opened in 2021, Sound CBR has become a hub for women looking for a safe space to focus on their personal health and wellness. Providing a range of services – including pelvic floor physiotherapy, exercise physiology, acupuncture and more – the studio has formed a connection with the community almost unlike anything else in Canberra.
That’s why they’ve decided to give back – and they’re doing it with a jam-packed wellness event that brings together movement, education and community into one massive day.
“We see women from all walks of life, including a number of patients who have been through or are currently battling against breast cancer, as well as a lot of other conditions,” explains Sound CBR Practice Manager Georgia McBride.
“We’ve got such a buzzy community behind us; they’re so supportive, and we thought it was something that we could create something really lovely out of it…We’re raising funds for charity, but we also wanted to give back to our community.”
On Saturday 31 October from 8 am, Sound CBR will be hosting a morning of Pilates, matcha, education, snacks, music and more. They’ll be holding $25 open Pilates classes until 12 pm (including Reformer, Mat Pilates, Strength sessions, as well as Pre and Post Natal classes), alongside a DJ, a pop-up from Em Matcha and stalls from local female-led businesses including The Happy Uterus, and Postpartum with Georgie.
The idea of the event is to focus on women’s empowerment, connection, and health.
“A lot of the female partners and businesses we’re matching up with are also contributing to our raffle,” explains Georgia.
“We also have Mrs Fray, who will be offering up some jewellery and consultation vouchers for her wedding boutique, we’ve got Soken Boutique, and we are also working with the Skyn Lounge and with the Tann Line.”
“Most of these incredible women are all entrepreneurs; they’re Canberra-based, and they are clients of ours. We’re really trying to promote the women in our community who give so much to us.”

Priced at $10 per ticket – and with over $750 worth of prizes on offer – all proceeds raised both from the raffle and the Pilates classes will go directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to support their work in the fight against breast cancer.
“Most importantly, there will be a prevention talk from a breast cancer survivor at 9.45 am. As much as the classes and the stalls are fantastic, we do think that the talk itself is one of the highlights of the day,” says Georgia.
“It’s going to be led by one of our Sound CBR patients. She’ll be talking a little bit about her experience, but also preventative tools.”
Georgia says Sound CBR Founder Kate Speldewinde wants the event to teach women not only about the signs to watch out for, but also provide them with the tools to know when to ask for help.
“Breast cancer is something that affects so many women around the world and in Australia…if it’s something that people can come to before or after a class, we’d invite them to stick around. We do think it’s going to be insightful, and for an important cause.”
With Pilates classes quickly filling up, Georgia advises people interested in attending to book via the Mindbody app or call the practice to secure a spot. And for those who can’t attend on the day but still want to get involved, Sound CBR will also be accepting donations.
But at the end of the day, she says the fundraiser event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Sound CBR community.
“We come across so many incredible women here…I think it’s so important, especially in today’s climate, for women to be supporting women as much as possible.”
