Sydney’s viral bathhouse XtraClubs is coming to Civic (and they had us at Saturday night social sessions)

Canberra’s wellness scene is having a moment. And it’s about to level up with XtraClubs bringing its affordable-luxury, tech-enhanced bathhouse model to the city.
If you’ve ever found yourself wishing you could go straight from a brisk retail session – armful of shopping bags in tow – directly into a soothing bathhouse, your prayers are officially about to be answered.
Say hello to XtraClubs, Sydney’s popular “affordable-luxury” tech-enhanced bathhouse concept, which is setting up shop right in the heart of Civic.
And when we say “in the heart,” we mean it literally. Located at 148 Bunda Street, XtraClubs is taking up residence right next to the Canberra Centre. In fact, it even boasts direct access from the Canberra Centre car park via a lift that opens straight into the club – making the shift from retail therapy to deep contrast therapy almost dangerously seamless.
XtraClubs is the first wellness brand in Australia to offer a self-service, tech-enhanced bathhouse experience, specialising in ice baths, steam rooms, and Finnish and infrared saunas, including the largest Finnish sauna in the country. Its self-service, communal model is designed to make high-end recovery and relaxation accessible every single day (it’s open from 6 am through to 11 pm!).
The brand was founded by brothers Anthony and James Simonetta alongside friend Simon Hamilton, and born out of a desire to break away from overpriced, hard-to-book single sessions and create a sanctuary that fits real life.
“I wanted a place where I could go any time, stay as long as I liked and could access premium wellness facilities without paying for overpriced single sessions”, says Anthony.
“I really struggled to find a place that was open when I was available, and that’s when it occurred to me that there was a glaring gap in the market.”
XtraClubs fills that gap. Inside the sleek, modern space, you’ll find:
- Four Infrared Saunas for a deeper heat experience.
- Six Ice Baths operating at varied chill levels
- A traditional Steam Room inspired by traditional wellness practices.
- Guided Sensory Sessions, combining breathwork, essential oils, and the traditional European art of Aufguss in 10-minute bursts.
XtraClubs is also bringing a completely fresh vibe to Canberra’s weekend social scene with their Social Sessions every Saturday night from 7 pm to 10 pm. Think of it as a sober, feel-good alternative to the pub: low lighting, tunes pumping, low-key conversation. All the social energy of a night out but waking up feeling completely restored instead of ruined.
For the most part, though, XtraClubs is designed to be a place to switch off.
