Exhilarate your senses, tantalise your tastebuds and unleash your imagination in Canberra this March.

While many people assume Canberra consists only of politicians, annoying roundabouts and man made lakes, we know it has a lot to offer. While there’s a lot to love about our city all year round, it’s during March that it truly comes alive.

Brand Canberra have taken the opportunity to turn the month of March into a 31 day festival festival celebrating Canberra’s birthday and the plethora of activities on offer. Here’s our top 10.

Over nine nights watch as Canberra illuminates with the launch of Enlighten. See six of the cities most iconic buildings light up with displays designed by leading artists. There’s also an array of exclusive events, music, performances and experiences. Enlighten runs from 4 to 12 March.

Head down to Reconciliation Place in Parkes enjoy authentic Asian eats at the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets. There will be local favourites like Mr. Papa, Chairman and Yip, Miss Van’s and Soi Noodle Bar alongside the Sydney cult favourite Bao Stop. Be sure to check out the dessert experts at Black Star Pastry. From 5pm every night from 4 to 13 March.

Whether you bleed green for the Raiders, you’re a die-hard Brumbies fan or you’ve never watched a game in your life. Football season is back in full swing and Canberra has union and league lovers covered this month. If you’ve never been to a game, March is the perfect month to go before the temperatures drop.

See the Brumbies take on the Waratahs on 4 March and the Raiders tackle the Roosters on 12 March.

The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is considered to be one of the best hot air ballooning events in the world. Head to the Lawns of Parliament House from 12 to 20 March. See balloons launch from 6:30-7am each day before ascending into the sky and creating an exhilarating back drop to our national attractions.

Be sure to celebrate Canberra’s 103rd birthday on Monday 14 March at the Canberra Day celebrations. Head down to Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park and celebrate with activities for the whole family.

With face painting, jumping castles, a giant slide and lots of live entertainment, headlined by Canberra’s own The Aston Shuffle. It’s sure to be a fun filled day for all.

The Canberra Comedy Festival is back again from 15-20 March. With great acts including Arj Barker, Kitty Flanagan, Stephen Amos and Nazeem Hussein, there’s bound to be a show that will have you in stitches.

On Saturday 18 March it’s time for a cold one at the Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival. Try over 80 craft beers and ciders, taste local gourmet food and try your hand at matching beer and food. There will be live entertainment, giveaways and a charity raffle. Whether you’re a novice or a beer expert this is the perfect opportunity to meet with local brewers and learn all there is to know about beer and cider.

Canberra’s very own alternative art festival celebrates the fringe of Canberra’s art community with artists from all mediums and walks of life coming together for the huge one day festival that is Art Not Apart on Saturday 19 March in NewActon.

From physically immersive installations to world class demonstrations, watch live painting, aerial displays, attend workshops and party the night away at the huge F_ck Art Let’s Party afterparty taking place at Westside.

Nothing feels more Canberran than Skyfire. Pack a picnic; grab the kids and head down to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin on Saturday 19 March to enjoy an evening of great live entertainment.

After the sun goes down and the stars come out, watch as the sky is lit up with a magnificent fireworks show at 8:30pm.
