A Parisian Cabaret coming to a unique location in the city

Posted on

When Templo Theatre is officially unveiled to Canberra audiences early next year, it hopes to set a new high bar in intimate theatre and musical performance spaces in the heart of the city.

The theatre takes out the second floor of the redeveloped building on London Circuit which houses Saint Malo.

But for those set on getting a peek at the custom-designed space, Templo Theatre will be running a limited season special event which begins later this month—La Bella Burleschi, a tribute to the true tradition of Parisian Cabaret.

Given Templo Theatre is a custom-designed theatre space with a vintage luxe aesthetic, the show is a perfect fit.

Produced and directed by James Karp (The Burlesque Show Network 10 and Cabaret La Belle Rose Network 9) audience members are taken on a discovery of a bygone era of this female art form.

Choreographed by David Camm, the acts are a series of movements built around costumes and Burlesque folklore. Avoiding nudity and crass elements, the artform is venerated. Of course, there will be plenty of feathers and diametes—enough to make Ziegfried Follies proud.

The show is timed perfectly as an end of year work treat, or a chance for friends to celebrate the silly season. Dinner and show packages are available, offering either a two-course menu of Poulet Roti, a chicken roast paired with pumpkin puree, couscous, corn, and chorizo sauté followed by a Cappuccino Crème Brulee, served with a Kahlua zabaglione and biscotti.

If you are coming as a group, there is also a Tapas package for six people including a range of Spanish-inspired share dishes, including fried plantain with charred corn and guacamole, salmon curado of citrus cured salmon, with caviar, labneh and dark rye and a ceviche of line caught snapper with spring onion, chillies, mint, and coriander. All dietaries can be catered for including gluten-free and vegan.
