Aca-scuse me? A famous British a cappella vocal ensemble is coming to Canberra

Posted on

For over 50 years, this irresistibly charismatic ensemble has represented the gold standard in a cappella singing.

They’ve sung in pretty much every major concert hall in the world, on countless television broadcasts, released over 150 records, and have several Grammy and Emmy awards to their name. And now after six years, they’re finally touring Australia again – and making a special stop in Canberra.

Performing at The Snow Concert Hall in Red Hill, The King’s Singers will be here for one night only. And it’s going to be aca-awesome.

On Thursday 21 March, Patrick Dunachie, Edward Button, Julian Gregory, Christopher Bruerton, Nick Ashby, and Jonathan Howard of The King’s Singers will be taking the stage to seamlessly blend their voices in an amazing and diverse musical program that will leave you in awe.

Beloved the world over, The King’s Singers formed in 1968, when six choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge gave a concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Over the last 50 years they’ve built a reputation for their unrivalled technique, versatility, and skill in a cappella performance (as well as their consummate musicianship)

Cementing their success in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, their international career really kicked off in 1972 with a 35-concert tour of Australia and New Zealand, seeing them quickly become a global phenomenon – so it feels only right that 52 years later they’re coming to the nation’s capital as part of the Snow Concert Hall’s packed 2024 season.

And with two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame under their belt, this choral group is not to be missed.

Gracing the stage with their vocal harmonies everywhere from London’s Royal Albert Hall to New York’s Carnegie Hall, for their Canberra performance you can expect to hear a program of music that spans 500 years, ranging from medieval to renaissance, romantic to contemporary, folk and pop. And if you’re lucky, you might even hear them flawlessly perform some iconic Australian tunes. Daryl Braithwaite’s HORSES anyone?

Perfect for anyone who’s been a fan of The King’s Singers since the ‘70s, who wants to experience the magic of a cappella for themselves, or who just wants a beautiful evening full of music (and some British wit) this is a show for everyone.
