Meet Bar Outro, Braddon’s newest wine bar, from the team behind Terra and Recess

From the team behind Terra and Recess comes a new Braddon venue that’s part wine bar, part listening lounge, and all good vibes.
Bar Outro, the latest offering from Canberra hospitality duo Anthony Iannelli and Sungyeol “Sunga” Son, opens today on Lonsdale Street in Braddon. Occupying the former Rye Café site, Outro is described as ‘a relaxed yet high-fidelity space where vinyl, minimal-intervention wines, maximum-intervention cocktails, and laid-back food take centre stage’.

The name is a nod to what’s to come. With the building slated for redevelopment in the next few years, Outro is the final chapter for the space – a last song, of sorts.
“We didn’t want to go to overboard with the transient nature of the space. We’ve softened the edges of the original space, upgraded the sound and put together a menu of everything we feel like eating right now,” says Iannelli.
“The idea is simple, come in for a drink and a feed and stick around for the music.”

Bar Outro’s hi-fi system is a serious kit for music lovers, featuring a pair of vintage JBL 4344 studio monitors, a McIntosh amplifier, Technics 1200 MKII turntables, and an Omnitronics rotary mixer. Thousands of vinyl records line the back bar, and empty wine bottles crown the ceiling’s acoustic panels for a detail that’s both decorative and deliberate.

The food offering is snack-led but substantial, giving guests the freedom to graze or stay for a full meal. In collaboration with head chef Dave, Executive chef Sunga Son has created a menu that draws loosely from European wine bars, with dishes like house-made flatbread and accompaniments (we can’t wait to try the duck liver parfait with hazelnut praline), charred prawns with prawn bisque, and sugarloaf cabbage with hot English mustard hummus.
Larger plates include wagyu bavette with smoked fat vinaigrette, ricotta scarpinocc with brown butter, truffle and pecorino, and chicken ballotine with pomme purée and tarragon jus.

Bar snacks like house-made pickles, Gordall olives and crispy pig head croquettes sit comfortably alongside more refined options like potato terrine with ponzu gel and salmon roe or South Coast oysters with prosecco jelly and tosazu.
The drinks list leans natural, highlighting wines made with care from producers like Gut Oggau, Radikon, Alain Castex, Ochota Barrels and Momento Mori. The cocktail list is small but clever, featuring drinks like the Whisky Apple Highball with Earl Grey and Granny Smith soda, a Strawberry Gimlet with tomato water & saltbush, and the crowd-pleasing Jaffa Old Fashioned with rum, coffee, Campari and spice.
“If you’ve had a wine at Terra, you’ll recognise the vibe,” says Iannelli. “We like to serve things that are made with intention. Some bottles are fun and easy, some are a bit more serious – but none of them are boring.”

Bar Outro will be open for dinner from Wednesday through Monday, with lunch service operating from Thursday to Sunday. Though perhaps most exciting is the supper menu from 10 pm–12 am Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (late night dry-aged cheeseburgers anyone?). Guests are encouraged to drop in for a quick drink or book in for the full experience.

The opening of Outro also marks the official launch of The Good Life — a new hospitality group founded by Iannelli in collaboration with partners Son and Scott Brewer. The group now operates Terra, Recess, and Outro, with more venues in the pipeline.
