The theme? Floral Wonderland. Us? Keen.
Colour us excited, because the first news of Floriade 2023, Canberra’s annual festival of spring, has been released and honestly, it’s exactly the news we need when we can’t see 100 metres due to winter fog.
Taking place from 16 September to 15 October in Commonwealth Park, Floriade’s 2023 theme will be Floral Wonderland and we’re already planning our outfits.
New to Canberra and have no idea what this Floriade business is? Have a watch.
A bouquet (sorry) of spring-y activities is planned across the month, including circus performances and cabaret in the Floriade Wonderland Spiegeltent, a show called Circus Wonderland: A Neverland Adventure and yes, everyone’s favourite pooch bonanza, Dogs’ Day Out will see hundreds of good pups take to the floral corridors of Commonwealth Park on Sunday 15 October.
Floriade’s annual after-dark event NightFest will be back too, with illuminations and entertainment from 28 September until 1 October from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm each night.
The colour will be spreading across Canberra too. Continuing the tradition created in 2020 due to lockdowns, 94 community groups have been selected to plant little pockets of Floriade throughout the suburbs, with more than 300,000 bulbs and annuals distributed.
Want to take a slice of Floriade home yourself? Mark your calendar for Monday 16 October, when the Great Big Bulb Dig will let you do just that for a good cause.
