Exhibitions
Liz Priestley – Origins and Destinations & Jessica Murtagh – Afterimages of familiar tales
Grainger Gallery is hosting two solo shows with Liz Priestley and Jessica Murtagh. Priestley delivers an emotive body of paintings in encaustic, a combined interpretation of both the immediate physical landscape, and that of the internal landscape. It is an exploration of the subject, viewed via a nostalgic lens, “the culmination of many experienced vistas, overtime, in many different settings. All of which give explanation to the influence, of the natural environment in my life.”
Jessica’s arts practice leans heavily on illustration, using sandcarving and engraving techniques to create imagery and narratives on glass. Illustrations of the common, mundane scenes of ordinary people are of particular influence on Murtagh’s work and a fascination with history and ancient relics has led to exploration of what future artefacts could be, and to question what our contemporary culture will one day leave behind.
Entry is free and all works are for sale.
