The Private Bin Throwback Party, Drag Bingo and more: Canberra events you won’t want to miss this week

Posted on

Looking for something different to do this week in Canberra? These events are guaranteed to add a little excitement to your calendar.

We know that we’ve banged on about March Madness sweeping Canberra, but unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that it’s true. It’s almost overwhelming how much there is to do (and it’s only going to get busier).

So – because this week has 90+ events alone – we’ve zeroed in on five guaranteed to spice up your week.

From a Private Bin Throwback Party to Drag Bingo, call your friends, book those tickets and let the madness sweep you away.

Drag Bingo at Verity Lane

If glitter, giggles and gloriously unhinged fun sounds like your ideal night out, pop this event into your calendar.

On the first Wednesday of every month, Verity Lane Market is hosting Drag Bingo – AKA your midweek excuse to let loose. Hosted by larger-than-life drag performers, across three hours expect five high-energy games of bingo, outrageous banter, crowd interaction, and plenty of moments you’ll be talking about long after the night is over.

Wednesday 4 March, 6.30 pm | 50 Northbourne Avenue, City | Find out more here.

SPACE CATHEDRAL

With a rooftop bar overlooking the city, this new creative hub is offering an out-of-this-world experience (pun intended).

Developed by The Blank Corporation in partnership with You Are Here, Blank Cultural Platform will be hosting SPACE CATHEDRAL: an immersive, multidisciplinary experience combining live music, performance art, and large-scale audiovisual installations.

Inspired by progressive futurism, Gothic iconography, and the story of Galileo, there will also be a special live performance by Aphir – a Canberra expat recognised nationally as an ARIA, AWMA, and Music Victoria Award–nominated audio engineer, songwriter, and producer.

Make sure to frock up for the occasion – dress code: “visiting an ancient cathedral in space, rediscovered thousands of years into the future.” Surely you have something in your wardrobe to suit?

Thursday 5 March, 7 pm | 131 City Walk, City | Book here.

Good Times Trivia at 88mph

This free trivia night combines general knowledge, pop culture and music with a cheeky retro edge for a fun-filled and high-energy evening.

With plenty of prizes up for grabs, book yourself a table and make the most of their Thursday night Happy Hour from 7 pm. Think: $12 Cosmos, $8 basics and $15 pizzas! Fluro and leg warmers are optional.

Thursday 5 March, 7.30 pm | Level 7/10 Hobart Place, City | Book here.

Private Bin Throwback Party 2.0

There are few Canberra nightclubs as legendary as the Private Bin. Famous for its disco (and sticky) floor, classic cocktails, and vibrant atmosphere, many locals have fond – and hazy – memories of a night out at the Bin. Now, you’ll be able to relive those memories.

Verity Lane is throwing a Private Bin Throwback Party and bringing back a piece of Canberra nightlife history. Leaning full-tilt into the nostalgia of the Sydney Building, the night will feature two DJ sets, throwback-inspired cocktail specials and more. Don your best hipster jeans, grab some friends, and be transported back to simpler times.

Saturday 7 March, 7 pm | Verity Lane Market, 50 Northbourne Avenue, Civic | Book here.

SummerSalt presents Ocean Alley

It turns out there are still tickets for SummerSalt. Now that’s a way to spend a Saturday.

Taking over Exhibition Park as part of their biggest Australian tour to date in celebration of their latest album, Love Balloon, they will be bringing a stacked, sun-drenched lineup featuring Skeggs, Allal-Las, Babe Rainbow, Mid Drift, Le Shiv and more.

Kicking off at 1.50 pm with Seaside and finishing with Ocean Alley later that evening, this is ideal for live music fans seeking some good vibes.

Saturday 7 March, 1 pm | Exhibition Park, Mitchell | Book here.
