Australian Parliament House lights up with a LEGO® Inspired Illumination for Enlighten 2024

Posted on

It’s universally acknowledged that every year, as autumn descends on the city, Canberrans will speculate about what the various Enlighten Festival’s illuminations might look like.

Over the years we’ve seen some spectacular interpretations of each building’s core values and purpose around the National Triangle.

But this year, we’re betting that everyone will be talking about one of Enlighten Festival’s biggest canvases, Australian Parliament House.

That’s because this year, Parliament House’s illumination has been inspired by one of its most famous residents – the LEGO® brick model of Parliament House designed by LEGO® Certified Professional Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught.

On display permanently, the LEGO® brick model of Parliament House is made of 152,690 bricks and has become a highlight of the building’s tours, with miniature snapshots of the House of Representatives and Senate Chambers, scenes throughout the building and some surprise characters.

It’s McNaught’s colourful vignettes that animators from The Electric Canvas have used to create the unique and dynamic illumination that will delight Canberrans as darkness falls on Friday 1 March, with the façade lit up every evening from 8 pm until 11 pm until Monday 11 March.

The highly colourful and animated illumination will enthral young and old! Plus the accompanying soundtrack adds another layer for your senses to enjoy.

Visiting Australian Parliament House during Enlighten is made easy – if you’re driving you can park in the public underground parking below the forecourt or if you’re coming by bus, Transport Canberra has bus services that stop just outside the forecourt.
