Get your festive fix at Westfield this Christmas

Posted on

Just like everything else in 2020, Christmas is looking a little different this year.

Many of us have shunned our Christmas away in favour of some time at home — either due to COVID concerns or just because we are, understandably, really quite exhausted after the year that’s been.

If this is you, there’s good news: you can get your festive fix and stay COVID-safe this summer.

Westfield Woden and Westfield Belconnen have a schedule of celebratory installations and activations sure to inspire Christmas cheer in even the grinchiest of Scrooges.

Here’s what you can look forward to all month long:

Spend some time with Santa

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a photo with Santa. Thankfully, this tradition is here to stay this year — albeit with a little 2020 twist.

Even Santa isn’t immune to COVID, so you and your family will have your very own socially-distanced seat next to the Santa’s throne. Not only will you leave with a priceless photo memento, but each child will also take home a reindeer headband.

Cost: a variety of packages are available | every day until Thursday 24 December at Westfield Woden and Westfield Belconnen | Bookings essential

If it’s quality Santa time you’re craving, we have just the ticket: breakfast with the big man himself.

This Saturday at Westfield Woden, you’re invited to join Santa for a magical breakfast like no other. Each guest will get their very own festive breakfast spread (think buttered pikelets, gingerbread men, fruit, and apple juice) and then follow Santa to his Santa Set to get your photo taken.

Cost: $16.50 (plus a booking fee) | Saturday 12 December at 9, 10, and 11 am at the Fresh Food Precinct near Milligram | See website for more information and to book

Get merry on the move

There’s no need to join a crowd of onlookers to soak up some festive entertainment.

At Westfield Woden and Westfield Belconnen, the entertainment comes to you, courtesy of a roaming crew of Santa’s special visitors including Rudolph, the Christmas Elf, Frosty the Snowman, Christmas Bear, the Gingerbread Man, Santa’s Helper and the Snow Queen.

Cost: free | Saturday 19 December to Thursday 24 December, 11 am to 3 pm at Westfield Belconnen. Saturday 12 December from 11 am to 2 pm and then Saturday 19 December to Thursday 24 December, 11 am to 2 pm at Westfield Woden.

Put a bow on it

Is there anything better than a pile of immaculately wrapped presents under the Christmas tree? The folks at Westfield Woden and Westfield Belconnen are waiting with scissors, wrapping paper and bows at the ready. All you need to do is take your Christmas shopping to the Gift Wrapping Station and donate a gold coin.

Cost: From $2* | 10 am to 3 pm from now until Thursday 24 December outside Trend Bags on Level 2 at Westfield Woden and from Monday 21 December outside T2 at Westfield Belconnen.

*Prices vary based on item size.

Say cheese

If a Santa portrait isn’t your style (or you’re just mad for Christmas memories) there are lots of other opportunities for some festive snaps.

Westfield Woden has set up a Making Christmas Merry Destination in Centre Court. Complete with a mini forest of Christmas trees decked with shiny baubles, it’s the perfect way to inject some Christmas cheer into your socials. Plus, if you share your photo on your socials with #westfieldwoden and @westfieldwoden, you’ll automatically go in the running to win a $100 Westfield Gift Card.

Cost: free | During trading hours from now until Thursday 31 December in Centre Court, Westfield Woden

For the last fifteen years, the Elf on the Shelf has been as iconic as Rudolph — and this year, you can get a selfie with the elf himself. Elfie will be making an appearance at both Westfield Woden and Westfield Belconnen a the Take a Selfie with Elfie station.

Cost: free | During trading hours until Sunday 20 December on level 1, David Jones Court near Donut King at Westfield Woden and level 3 outside T2 at Westfield Belconnen.
