Canberra musos: Want to play with Fanny (Lumsden)? Here’s your shot.

Posted on

Multi-award-winning country artist Fanny Lumsden is bringing her first-ever capital city headline tour to Canberra in February – and she wants a local act on stage with her.

Yes, you read that right: one Canberra musician or band will score the official support slot when Fanny and her band, The Prawn Stars, hit UC Hub on Friday 21 February.

The newly announced Play With Fanny competition is designed to give developing artists the chance to perform live in front of a packed room – and alongside one of Australia’s most celebrated singer-songwriters.

Fanny says championing up-and-coming artists is something she’s deeply passionate about.

“Playing live is what has built my entire career… so getting to hear other incredible artists do their thing and share the stage with them is such an inspiring part of the job for me. Australia is honestly bursting with talent at the moment, so I think there’s no better time to share the love, both for us as artists and with the audiences.”

Fanny knows the power of a life-changing gig. From playing country halls in regional Australia all the way to the stage at Glastonbury, she’s carved a unique path – collecting 2 ARIAs, 9 Golden Guitars, and 3 AIR Awards along the way.

Her latest album Hey Dawn topped the ARIA Australian Albums Chart, and she recently wrapped a huge European tour followed by shows with music icons Paul Kelly, Lucinda Williams and Rob Thomas.

She’s also currently up for Video of the Year at the Golden Guitar Awards for her autobiographical single Look at Me Now – a track reflecting on her journey so far, recorded on the road in Europe.

So if you’re a Canberra-based artist with a killer song up your sleeve, this might be the moment that helps kickstart your own touring story.

How to enter

It’s simple: upload a performance video of one song here.

Fanny herself will be judging the entries — and she’s very excited to find emerging talent in each city.

The competition closes on Wednesday 17 December, so get in quick.
