Get your fix of live music right here in Canberra.
The past couple of years have been damaging to music festivals, to say the least, and many of our favourites have either chosen to skip 2024 altogether or their fate is simply unclear.
But live music never goes out of style and here at HerCanberra, we are having withdrawals so here’s a list of three festivals we will be attending and think you should keep an eye out for.
Heaps Gay
Saturday 10 August
We don’t know about you, but a dance party programmed by Heaps Gay, the team behind several Sydney Mardi Gras at Fyshwick’s newest warehouse party space is exactly the kind of thing you’ll want to warm up your winter.
With DJ sets from Sophoyua, The Deep Faith, Charlie Villas, Fried Pork Chop, Heaps Gay Deejays and performances from Lady Fur, Rosie Rivette, Asteria Performances, Daddy Charlesylkyi and Ru Paul’s Drag Race Donw Under star Etcetera, Etcatera, it’s sure to be a banger of an evening. Tickets have just been released, so don’t miss out.
The Times Music Festival
Saturday 14 September
This is a celebration of the golden era of dance music and Australian culture, perfectly cultivated for a day of nostalgia. Located at one of Canberra’s most iconic buildings – the old Canberra Times building – the festival has promised a unique stage, tasty local food, and bars serving all your favourites. The building (which has been silent since the newspaper’s relocation in 2022) will be transformed to host iconic Australian musicians such as Sneaky Sound System, Bag Raiders and Havana Brown.
Tickets are limited and selling out fast so don’t miss out on your chance here.
Stonefest
Saturday 19 October
A Canberra live music staple for over 20 years. Stonefest is an annual festival held at the University of Canberra during week eleven of the second semester to celebrate, ‘Stone-Week’, the laying of the university’s foundation stone. The festival has welcomed iconic Australian stars over its lifespan (including Canberra’s own Lucy Sugerman, pictured above) and is generally known to be a good time. UC Live has recently announced the line-up with Teenage Dads, an Australian indie-rock band, as the headliners for 2024.
With special discounts for University of Canberra students and early bird discounts, make sure to snatch your tickets here, before it’s too late.
