Three ideas for COVID-safe events this weekend (for the five Canberrans who aren’t isolating)

Okay, team, listen up. The name of the game is: have a lovely weekend without becoming a close contact or contracting anything other than a good time.

So, after you’ve made this amazing bolognese to drop to your friends who *are* isolating and unwell, here’s how to fill your weekend in a socially distanced and COVID-safe manner.

To market, to market

Ah yes, the humble market—the perfect outdoor, COVID safe way to get your ‘doing something’ fix without being indoors.

Northsiders can head to the Capital Region Farmers Market at EPIC in Mitchell from crack of dawn on Saturday for their fix while Southsiders can sleep in Saturday and have their turn Sunday when the Southside Farmers Markets descend on Canberra College on Sunday.

Sundays also mean the Haig Park Village Markets (perfect for both northsiders and southsiders). This Sunday 16 January will be their first Sunday back after the Christmas break and let’s just hope this fickle weather plays ball.

Catch a flick under the stars

Cinemas freaking you out but desperate to see all the new releases? Meet the perfect answer: Sunset Cinema Canberra.

With plenty of new releases and seating that consists of spaced out BYO picnic arrangements and comfy bean bags, open air cinema never looked so good (or COVID safe).

Pop in for some bubbles

Catching up with friends or keen to head out with your mates or special someone? Why not pull up a picnic rug at one of this weekend’s outdoor bars?

Canberra classic The Pop Inn will be popping up (sorry) at Kingston’s lakeside Bowen Park from Friday to Sunday this weekend (check their Facebook for times) and champagne-focused newbie (with the cutest truck ever) the House of Bubbles will be in the Kingston Forshore’s Norgrove Park this Sunday from 3 pm.
