Five blooming good walks for blossom spotting

Posted on

Keen for a walk that will put a spring in your step?

Now that the weather is (slowly) getting warmer, there’s nothing like a good stroll to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the new season. Get lost amongst the blossoms with these blooming good walks which include a coffee pit stop along the way.

Nara Peace Park and Lake Burley Griffin, Parkes

Start your walk at the Nara Peace Park, with its iconic cherry blossom trees and Japanese-themed garden, and make your way towards blossom-lined Lake Burley Griffin. Make a pit stop at The Jetty Café to people watch.

Walk time: 20-30 minutes one way or an hour in total

La Perouse Street, Griffith

Manuka is pretty in pink at the moment, with plenty of cherry blossom sightings on La Perouse Street towards the shops. Start your walk at the end of the street (at the intersection of Flinders Way) and continue along its path to spot the blossoms. It will lead you to Manuka Village, with its abundance of cafes, or for a longer walk continue through to Telopea Park.

Walk time: About 10 minutes one way or 20 minutes in total

Kitchener Street, Hughes/Garran

Come spring, Kitchener Street has always been lined with beautiful white blossoms, making it an ideal morning or afternoon walk. Head towards the Garran shops for coffee at Little Garran (and check out Eldridge Crescent nearby for extra blossoms) or if you’re walking the opposite way, Home Ground café is at the Hughes shops.

Walk time: About 20 minutes one way or 40 minutes in total

Hill Corner, Yarralumla

Start your walk on Hill Corner, a few blocks from the Yarralumla Shops (where you can find Beess & Co or Farmers Daughter cafes.) Follow the path towards the lake to blooming Weston Park (or stop at the Yarralumla dog park on Banks Street if you’ve got a four legged friend with you!)

Walk time: 30 minutes one way or an hour in total

Hoddle Gardens, Ainslie

Start at blossom-lined Hoddle Gardens and walk towards Ebden and Leslie Streets, then finish at Braddon or the city for a bite to eat. If you’re keen for more cardio, Mt Ainslie is close by!

Walk time: About 25 minutes one way or 50 minutes in total.
