Two days dedicated to Australian and imported spirits? You’ll be sure to find a tipple that tickles your fancy here.
Helping locals get into spirit just before the silly season kicks off (get it?), The Canberra Spirits Festival is coming to the University of Canberra to offer alcohol lovers the chance to taste over 120 of the best spirits from popular distillers. We’re talking whisky, bourbon, gin, tequila, and rum – and yes, there will even be vodka paired with a caviar bump.

Opening Party – Carol Jerrems: Portraits
Join the opening of Carol Jerrems: Portraits to celebrate the work, life and legacy of one of Australia’s most influential photographers.
You’ll be able to see the exhibition for free, grab a drink and soak up the vibe of DJ Charlie Villas’ genre- and generation-bending beats. Showcasing more than 140 photographs, from Jerrems’ lesser-known early work to the now iconic Vale Street 1975, and portraits of cultural figures like Anne Summers, Bobbi Sykes, Evonne Goolagong, the Skyhooks and Linda Jackson, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

NICF Online Bake For Babies
The Newborn Intensive Care Foundation’s (NICF) successful Online Back for Babies event is back and this year marks the Foundation’s 30th Anniversary! Professional talented Canberra bakers have generously donated their incredible and delicious creations to the cause (including My sweet lady; Blondiez and Browniez; Baker & Bloom; Little Cookie House and more), and with cupcakes, blondies and brownies and cookies, there’s something for everyone.
Prices range from $15 to $40 and all proceeds will go towards funding high-tech medical equipment to help give all babies a fighting chance. Life shouldn’t be a struggle when you are just a few hours old.

2024 Craft + Design Canberra Festival
It’s the 10th year of the Craft + Design Canberra Festival, and there’s plenty to see and do. This is a major exhibition of one of Australia’s most influential photographers.

20 Years of Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year
Experience the wonder of two decades of award-winning nature photography in the 20 Years of Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year,celebrating winning entries from each year since its inception.
Conceived in 2004 by Dr Stuart Miller AM, the competition aims to stoke the public’s fascination with the natural world and provide a platform for emerging and established photographers alike to showcase the remarkable flora, fauna and landscapes of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea.
Developed by the South Australian Museum, this free exhibition invites visitors to trace the evolution of photographic techniques over the past 20 years.
Images on display range from the eye of a firestorm captured by last year’s winner Samuel Markham to 2016 winner Matthew McIntosh’s macro shot of mosquitoes feasting on the forehead of a treefrog, to the 2010 winner Glenn Ehmke’s face-off between a Gentoo penguin and an elephant seal.

There is a crack in everything… that’s how the light gets in
Inspired by the many poems celebrating imperfection, five local potters have combined their creative forces to present this beautiful exhibition.
A study of the beauty, or light, that lies within the imperfections of the physical form, the five artists explore their different perspectives, and the inconsistencies and flaws that are inherent in the practice of the hand made and the beauty that emerges. Megalo Wayzgoose
Megalo Print Studio’s Megalo Wayzgoose exhibition will bring together over 100 artworks by more than 50 contemporary printmakers from across ACT, NSW, SA, Victoria and Tasmania.
If you’ve never heard of a wayzgoose before, it’s an annual printmakers’ tradition dating back to the mid-1700s when a printing house would have an event to celebrate the printers’ work. This exhibition features artists from across Australia who are working with print in its multiplicitous forms:

Mythica Ignota: Solo Exhibition by Elliat Rich
Showcasing new work developed during Elliat Rich’s residency at Canberra Glassworks throughout 2024, Mythica Ignota uses mythology as a framework to nest scientific observation and more-than-human orientated values with artefact and narrative.

A Feeling for Place
Hosted at Civic Library, A Feeling for Place shows places and scenes in Canberra, Sydney and India.
Ranging from picnic areas, community centres, cultural activities at home or at festivals in a park, to an image of a café managed by a Burmese refugee, behind the images presented in the exhibition lie both an emotional and narrative content arising from the artist’s family and cultural background.

20 Years of Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year
For 20 years, the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition has provided a platform for emerging and established photographers to capture the most remarkable flora, fauna, and landscapes of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea.
This year, National Archives of Australia is showcasing 20 Years of the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year with winning entries from each year of the competition. Head along to this free exhibition to explore how photographic techniques have evolved over the past two decades, and how photography is a powerful medium for capturing and understanding our natural world.

Pattern Recognition
Pattern Recognition celebrates female and non-binary artists from the ACT region who use abstraction and design principles to explore colour perception and spatial relationships, highlighting the ways artists approach colour, geometry, and form.
While the artists in the exhibition explore similar visual terrain, embracing non-objective abstraction, repetition and pattern, their underlying conceptual investigations and influences vary and include post-colonial and feminist frameworks, climate activism, architecture, memory, extended pictorial space, mindfulness, and sensory engagement with the materials. The exhibition investigates regeneration, exploring the influence of traditional craft disciplines on contemporary art practice.

Hiroe and Cornel Swen: Making a Creative Life
This is a groundbreaking exhibition celebrating the lifelong creative partnership of two of Canberra’s most admired artists: Hiroe and Cornel Swen, charting their course from Kyoto to Canberra.
Running until 16 March 2025, this exhibition marks the first time both artists’ works are showcased together, offering profound insights into their individual journeys and shared contributions to Canberra’s cultural landscape. Kulata Tjuta: Tirkilpa
Kulata Tjuta is an ongoing cultural maintenance project that shares the skills of carving and making the punu kulata (wooden spear) across generations.
Starting as a project involving a small group of men in Amata, it grew to include over 100 Aṉangu men across the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. As the largest and most significant installation of the culturally important and visually spectacular Kulata Tjuta (Many Spears) Project, you’ll see large-scale, multi-disciplinary installations which incorporate film, sound, live performance and other artistic collaborations.

NICA Try-It-Out Day
The National Interscholastic Cycling Association is running a Try-It-Out day at Mt Stromlo, and you’re invited!
