Join Mr Tim and Ms Nat at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre to create an original musical on a time crunch, or more specifically, in just five days!

The Make a Mini Musical school holiday program provides children between eight to 13 years of age with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to take their musical inclinations and creative side to the next level! Alongside Mr Tim and Ms Nat, the participants will start by envisioning the storyline, writing the lyrics, music, and dialogue, followed by creating the choreography and making the props and backdrops for the stage.

Have you ever laughed so hard to the point that your stomach hurts? The Interactive Theatre International’s children’s comedy production, Signor Baffo, will have the whole family experience just that!

For the perfect putters in the family

Putt to infinity and beyond these school holidays with the iconic mini-golf pop-up, Pixar Putt! Check this out when it’s in full swing at Civic Square until 18 October for four fun-filled weeks! With the set-up taking inspiration from Toy Story, Cars, Monsters Inc. Turning Red, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo and more, prepare to be transported into the Pixar universe, right in Canberra.

And this is perfect for all ages! Pixar Putt after-dark sessions are on offer for the adults to become perfect putters themselves, only on Thursday to Saturday nights from 7 pm – 10 pm.

Looking for a free yet fun activity for the whole family? The Senate Courtyard will be the place to be with the Open Air PlayUP kickstarting on the first week of the spring school holidays. Gear up and get competitive during a game of musical chairs, Duck, Duck, Goose, Giant Connect 4, and the list goes on. And when we say this program is for everyone, we mean it. The Senate Courtyard is wheelchair accessible and welcomes all ages.

For the worldly wanderers

While you take your time running errands and sorting out groceries at Gungahlin Marketplace, the kids will be exploring different worlds through the magic of several arts and crafts workshops.

If your little ones are obsessed with The Little Mermaid or Finding Nemo, the Under the Sea workshops will be perfect for them! Four workshops will be running between Saturday 28 September to Sunday 13 October and will be located outside of Big W.

For future filmmakers

Know a little aspiring filmmaker who is between the ages of eight to 12? If so, we have some good news for you!

Stop-motion animation experts Eleanor and Giovanni will be guiding participants through an inspiring two-day workshop, where the magic of paper cut-out animations will be explored through fascinating yet diverse themes.

By the end of it, the young stop-motion animators will have learned animation techniques, created backgrounds and props, and  edit their film to bring their visions to life, from beginning to end.

Canberra Youth Theatre has brought us two out-of-the-box school holiday workshops for the little theatre lovers in your life.

The Imagine That! four-day workshop will allow young participants to create an original performance through pure determination and imaginative ideas. As for the Once Upon a Villain workshop, the young ones will dive deep into the darker side of fairytales through practical exercises and creative plays throughout the course of three days.

As you “ooh” and “aah” at the Belonging: Stories from Far North Queensland exhibition at the National Museum of Australia, the kids can check out the First Nations artists from the Pormpuraaw Arts and Culture Centre through three artistic workshops.

By the end of the day, don’t be too surprised when the little ones bring home woven jellyfish sculptures, glow-in-the-dark turtles, and kinetic sculptures made from seashells!

The Arboretum is bringing the ultimate beginner bonsai workshop for kids who like to get their hands dirty!

Perfect for young ones between the ages of eight to 16 years, they’ll have the unique experience of seeing the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia through a guided tour, create a Bonsai under the guidance of educators, and learn to nurture their bonsai baby that they’ll carefully cradle home.

Wall Flowers

Calling all children ten years of age or older! This hour-long session will be all about cutting and bringing coloured glass pieces together to create a vibrant tessellated flower. Kids Holiday Tiles

The Mara Boomerang workshop, or the ‘Pathway of the Boomerang’ workshop in Ngunnawal language, will be guided by The Arboretum’s Indigenous Educator who will blend hands-on learning with an engaging outdoor activity. Ideal for children between the ages of seven to twelve, participants will have the chance to decorate their own boomerang, understand the basics of boomerang mechanics, and how to throw them (safely of course!).

So, what’s in store for those four jam-packed days, you ask? The program will kick off with a thrilling music video shoot and time for participants to bedazzle their very own popstar outfit with crystals and metallic. Coming to Canberra for one day only, Whistle and Trick is a Melbourne based children’s band made up of childhood friends Esther Holt and Maddy Kelly, who are always ready to sing, dance, and cause a bit of mischief. Taking over Ainslie Arts Centre for an hour filled with fun, they’ll be exploring all the wonderful wacky things in life, through a variety of musical styles and instrumentation. Their special friends Frank the Monster and Melindu the Emu will also be making an appearance!
