This touching, relatable, and comedic novel touched the hearts of so many Australians – and now, Vidya Rajan’s theatrical adaptation will make its Canberra debut in a strictly limited run on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October at the Canberra Theatre. Based on the loved iconic novel and groundbreaking film, many Aussies will be familiar with Josie’s story, but for those who aren’t, 17-year-old Josie finds herself caught between old-world family traditions and new-world dreams, eager to escape the overbearing nature and strict expectations of her family and Italian heritage.

As she navigates love, lies and family secrets, Josie finds her voice, heart and the truth about what it means to be an Alibrandi.

“I’m thrilled to bring one of Australia’s most treasured stories about family, identity, and growing up between cultures to our stage,” says Canberra Theatre Centre Executive Producer, Lisa Freshwater.

“And for Canberra audiences to rediscover its magic or fall in love with it for the very first time.”
