Three Canberra crews are US-bound for the World Hip Hop Championships: you can help get them there
Posted on
Think of it as the Olympics of Hip Hop. Hip Hop International’s (HHI) World Hip Hop Championship brings together over 4000 dancers from over 55 countries together to compete for the gold.
And for the first time in the history of local studio Dance Central, three of their outstanding crews have qualified to represent Australia in the USA this August.
Say hello (and good luck) to the Rascals, Onyx, and Legacy crews.
Dance is a way of life for these guys – Dance Central (affectionately known as DC) is their home away from home and they’re all incredible role models within the Canberra dance community. How do I know? I’ve danced at DC since I was five years old – I’m now 23 – and this is also my chance to compete at the HHI World Championships.
My long held dream has been to compete at the event in America. My first ever dance competition was HHI (Sydney Prelims) in 2013. That year, I saw my dance teachers qualify in their team, Nirvana. I still remember the excitement we all felt watching them as they jumped up and down, screaming, crying from excitement! As a studio, we came together to fundraise and support them, I’ll never forget how inspired I was by their hard work. From then on I dedicated myself to dance and I’ve sacrificed a lot to pursue this dream.
And after 11 years of competing, I am incredibly grateful and excited to finally be competing on the world stage. But to make our global dream a reality, we need your support at our Mid-Year Showcase & Fundraiser on Saturday 15 June.
Your support could help cover travel, accommodation, and competition expenses, allowing all of the dancers to focus on what they do best: performing and representing the Canberra community with pride!
The Mid Year Showcase will include performances from the talented and incredible Dance Central Crews and Troupes. But before the show begins, there will be a pre-show party of fantastic food, drinks, sweets, entertainment and more. Then you can sit back, relax and get a glimpse at what the elite dancers have to offer.
At the end of the show, we’ll also be raffling off thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes and with local businesses like Tiny Creatures, Artisan Clinics, Waves Car Wash, Honeysuckle and Lace, Azima, Capital Brewing, Moxom and Whitney, Fox and Bow, Cataldo’s Salon, Reju Clinic and Ramas restaurant donating, you won’t want to miss out!
There are over 40 dedicated dancers who will be training tirelessly for the next six weeks in order to make it to the world stage. Participating in the World Championship means extra commitment and effort. It’s sacrificing any spare time to practice and perfect their skills. For many of these dancers, this will be their first time competing internationally and they are all in.
Are you all in to support them (and me)?
