Six free and cheap things to do in Canberra this autumn

Are you someone who wants to make the most of the autumn colours and weather before hibernating in winter? Well, there is plenty of opportunity to get out and about this autumn in Canberra.
Here are six free and cheap things (under $30) you can do!
Cinema and Sips (Verity Lane)
On the first Thursday of the month, Verity Lane hosts a free cinema and sip, featuring fan-fave films accompanied by delicious eats from Verity Lane vendors, fresh buttered popcorn, and candy-themed cocktails.
With doors opening from 6:30 pm, and screenings starting at 7 pm, make sure to book ahead!

Canberra Fashion Market (Kingston)
Calling all lovers of fashion, this one’s for you! The next Canberra Fashion Market is being held on Sunday 20 April from 10 am to 3 pm and will cater to all your fashion needs. With stallholders selling new and quality pre-loved fashion such as clothing, shoes, boots, bags, jewellery and accessories, this free event is a fashion lover’s dream!

Cockington Green Gardens (Gold Creek)
Want to travel the world to see iconic monuments and landmarks but don’t have the time or money? We have miniature versions in our own backyard. This autumn, why not make a day trip out to Gold Creek and visit Cockington Green Gardens to see all the miniature buildings that feature houses and monuments from more than 30 countries?
Here you can also take a ride on the iconic miniature steam train, see the Waverley Dolls House, grab a bite to eat at the Rose Room Coffee shop or bring a picnic and let the kids play on the playground.
Open seven days a week from 9:30 am to 5 pm with tickets at $25 for adults and $15.50 for children, this will make the perfect day out.

Holey Moley (Civic)
For big kids and little kids alike, nothing says ‘fun’ like Holey Moley.
Between Monday to Wednesday, you can do nine holes of mini-golf for $20 (adults) and $12 (kids/students), or upgrade to 18 holes for $30. Or why not try five of their challenge rooms for $27 (adults) and $20 (kids/students)? Don’t miss the opportunity for a day full of fun, laughter, and a chance to sit on the most famous couch in TV at the ‘742 Evergreen Terrace’ or win big at the ‘Wheel of FORCE-tune’ hole.

National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia (National Arboretum)
Located within the National Arboretum is a hidden gem of natural beauty. Open from 9 am until 4 pm every day with free entry, you can go and gaze upon 120 different exhibits within the National Bonsai and Penjing collection and see approximately 75 trees on display at any one time.

Yarrulumla Play Station (Yarralumla)
Want to take advantage of the autumn colours? Why not make a whole day out at the Yarrulumla Play Station? With attractions such as the Lake Walter miniature golf course, mini farm friends, YPS Lolly Shoppe and Café, there’s so much for the whole family.
Unfortunately, the Weston Park miniature railway is closed due to a new attraction being installed, but outside the park, you can also indulge in BBQs, bike and horse trails, and so much more!
