Your bumper guide to the 2025 FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets

Posted on

Six hundred drones lighting up the night sky, food trucks, markets and more – the FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets are back for another year, and they’re going to be big.

That’s right, the award-winning FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow + Night Markets are coming back to Canberra this January to transform Lake Burley Griffin once again with a series of shows to reflect, respect, and celebrate the ever-evolving story of our nation.

Taking place from Friday 24 until Sunday 26 January (hello, Australia Day long weekend plans), the breathtaking 3D drone show and night markets are returning for three jam-packed nights to create an unforgettable evening for the whole family.

And to help you plan the best night out ever, we’ve pulled together everything you need (and want) to know about this epic free event. You’re welcome.

From how to get there to what to expect, where to sit and – very importantly – what you can eat while you’re there, whether you’re witnessing it for the first time or returning for more, prepare to be amazed.

What is it?

Have no idea what we’re talking about? Featuring 600 drones working in perfect synchronisation to an epic soundtrack, FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow will transform the sky into a canvas of lights that tell spellbinding stories across two shows each night.

Starting from 9 pm, our advice is to get there early and plan to stay for the entire performance.

When is it happening?

From 5 pm – 10 pm Friday 24, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January with Drone shows at 9 pm, and 10 pm.

What do you mean by ‘two drone shows’?

Exactly that! Featuring new 3D designs, immersive music and themes, each of the shows will pay tribute to the depth and beauty of our Indigenous heritage, bringing to life the pride, ingenuity, and heart of Australia.

Through the Lens starts at 9 pm beginning with a moving tribute to the land’s original custodians, and featuring the totem Maliyan, a powerful symbol of leadership and renewal.

Into the Mind will start at 10 pm, and both shows will honour the past while lighting the way for future generations.

Meanwhile, on the ground, the Night Markets will feature an array of local vendors, mouthwatering cuisines, unique crafts and roaming entertainment. But you’ll find out more about that later.

How much does it cost to attend?

It’s all completely free.

Will it be cancelled if the weather is bad?

The Drone SkyShow itself is highly weather-dependent, so to stay up to date with what’s happening, you’ll want to register here for any new information about the event.

That said, the markets will proceed in all weather.

How can I get there (and back)?

With large crowds anticipated, you’ll need to plan ahead when it comes to attending on your chosen night.

Thanks to the ACT Government, there will be free transport from 5 pm and shuttle buses from the City and Woden interchanges from 7 pm.

To ensure you stay updated with the event details and transport arrangements, register here and note that parking in the area is limited. Here’s a map to the variety of carparks you can choose from. Accessible parking is available in the Questacon Carpark and Regatta Point Carpark.

Alternatively, why not scoot? While Commonwealth Place is a no-ride zone, there will be designated e-scooter parking on either side of the event areas. Just make sure the Neuron app is downloaded onto your phone and ready to go!

Where will I get the best view?

Because it’s a 3D experience, FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow will be visible from a variety of locations around the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin so you can choose the experience that is right for you.

Want to enjoy the Night Markets, live entertainment and food vendors? Head to Commonwealth Place.

Perhaps you’re keen on a view of the event from Regatta Point? A secondary event hub will be established there with a smaller number of food vendors trading.

If you fancy an even more relaxed experience, think about joining from an alternative location like Kings Park. Plan to pack a picnic!

Okay, tell me about the Night Markets.

We thought you’d never ask!

Coming alive in both event hubs from 5 pm each evening, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the bustling market stalls before the drone show starts.

From enjoying mouthwatering cuisines like Spanish Paella, Turkish Gozleme, African curries, and Italian pizza and pasta to watching samba dancers and roaming magicians, there will something to keep the whole family entertained while you wait for the sun to go down.

It truly will be an evening of entertainment taken to new heights.
