Winter festivals to suit your personality type

Posted on

Winter in Canberra is full of festivals for every personality type, whether you’re a foodie, a book worm or a pop-culture addict.

For the foodies

Mouth-watering magic awaits you at The Truffle Festival (until 31 July).

Get a taste of this deliciously ugly delicacy for yourself with a cooking class with the experts, or a meal to remember.

Why not pair this humble fungi with a local wine during a special tasting at Contentious Character Vineyard? Meeting the talented Turalla Truffle hunting dogs is a must during this wintery festival.

For the book worms

Are you a bibliophile or a logophile? Do you like to curl up with a good book and savour every single word? Then the Canberra Writers Festival (21-25 August) is the event for you.

Learn about Stephanie Alexander’s passion for food, delve into a world of powerful heritage sites with Bob Brown, or step into the shoes of Australian politicians with Kevin Rudd.

While you’re waiting for the festival to start delve into a great read, the Secret City trilogy.

Written by Canberra’s own Steve Lewis and Chris Uhlmann, this series is so successful it has been adapted into a television drama for Foxtel and Netflix, winning two Logies in the process.

For the pop culture fans

Whether you have a wardrobe bursting with cosplay costumes, are a competitive gamer or a proud larper, GAMMA.CON celebrates your passion. Embrace your inner geek as you unite with fellow pop culture fans to learn from panel discussions, be amazed by indie game developers, marvel over anime, play free tabletop games, and meet over 150 exhibitors including local artists, comic book creators and writers.

Organised by volunteers, GAMMA.CON is an authentic celebration of everything you love.
