First Look: Ostani Bar’s million-dollar makeover

Barton workers, rejoice! Your favourite Friday night drinking hole is back!
Tomorrow, after over seven weeks of extensive renovation, one of Canberra’s original Happy Hour venues, Ostani Bar in Hotel Realm, will officially unveil its brand new million-dollar makeover.
It marks the last piece of a round of extensive refurbishments inside Hotel Realm, which also included a new-look ballroom and foyer.
“Naturally, our next step was to enhance our food and beverage offerings,” says Patrick Lonergan, Hotel Director of Doma Hotels (the group behind Hotel Realm).

The renovation was designed by local award-winning design studio Capezio Copeland and is inspired by the Australian alpine landscape.
It features timber clad walls, soft lighting, granite stone, stained timber cladding, blackened steel details, raw concrete and aged painted bricks. But the most spectacular piece of all is the gas fireplace in the centre of the bar, which is sure to become a go-to winter-gathering place for Canberrans and visitors alike.

The new bar also sees a variety of new seating options to cater to everyone from small and intimate groups to large functions.
“We’ve ensured the dining area emits an open, warm and social ambience and that there is more flexibility in the drinking and dining areas combined and a better flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces,” says Patrick.
“This means there are now more places for people to connect and simply enjoy each other’s company, whether it be for business or social, over delicious food and drinks in a relaxed, welcoming environment,” he adds.

An extension of the kitchen has allowed for the inclusion of a char-grill, meaning succulent grilled steaks, fish and more have been added to a new menu. Although, rest assured, your Ostani favourites like wood-fired pizza and burgers will remain a staple.
Even the cocktail menu has received a…shake-up (see what we did there?) with mouth-watering custom drinks like Winter in Havana (white and dark rum, house-made spiced syrup, mango sorbet, lime and vanilla) and Crema Dulce (vodka, Bailey’s, salted caramel syrup, whipped cream, meringue crumb) now available.

To celebrate the new-look bar and welcome, Ostani is hosting a re-opening party tomorrow, Friday 26 July. From 4.30 pm there will be cocktail tastings, roaming canapés, competitions, pop up bars, happy hour and live music.
