The vibe: The electric interiors here will catch your eye, with one of the coolest art collections in Canberra. Add in the terrazzo floor tiles, butter-yellow shelving and curvy banquette seating (all of which add a fun retro slant), and your camera will be eating long before you do.

What to order: On the menu at this hatted restaurant, you’ll find a contemporary take on nostalgic classics, with a series of snacks, share plates and larger portions available to order. Let the team take the reins with the Set Menu – everything here is worth trying at least once.

The vibe: A 120-seat Mediterranean diner in the heart of the city, from a maroon marble bar to a woodfire oven that was handmade in Naples, this restaurant is warm yet elegant and would look just at home in one of Melbourne’s foodie precincts as it does in Canberra.

What to order: Focussing on pure, Mediterranean flavours and ingredients, from antipasti to handmade pasta (as well as meat and seafood cooked over coals) there’s something for every kind of diner here. But for those who can’t resist a sweet treat, the Cherry, Chocolate and Mascarpone Trifle (pictured) has caught our eye.

The vibe: Buzzy, vibrant and always busy, this is a restaurant for modern diners who are looking for a good time and some good food. Named after the act of crossing off or ’86-ing’ a dish from the menu when they’ve sold out, it’s one of the best foodie hipster hangouts.

What to order: Is this even a question? Everyone knows that the Banoffee Pie is iconic (and for good reason). It also helps that it looks as pretty as a picture.

The vibe: Plush, moody, stylish. A place where the coolest person you know would be found sipping a glass of red on a cold night.

What to order: This fine dining darling is known for good food, but there are a few dishes on the menu that have remained classics for almost a decade: the OTIS Pepper Steak with silkwood pepper and brandy jus and the OTIS Crème Caramel – baked custard with vanilla bean, smoked sea salt, and Japanese whiskey.

The vibe: A sleek pan-Asian wine bar, a visit to this 22-seater is like dropping into a friend’s place: always warm and welcoming. But with warm wood tones and dark olive greens (along with a showstopping Italian marble counter), these friends lean more towards bougie than budget – if you know what we mean.

What to order: Recently claiming a coveted spot in the 2025 Gourmet Traveller shortlist of the nation’s best eateries, every three months, Minima changes the menu to offer something new and exciting. Balancing Thai and Chinese flavours with Euro techniques, the most recent iteration includes Vegemite profiteroles with sea urchin butter and pumpkin curry egg noodles (pictured).

The vibe: Moody wooden interiors, neon lights, Japanese calligraphy, and walls covered in pink, red, and white graffiti-style artwork depicting some iconic Japanese pop culture figures. Who doesn’t love Sailor Moon?

What to order: Stacked burgers, poke bowls, pizzas, and delicious dons that make up the menu of this unique venue. Think: grilled cheesy oysters, Peking Duck pizza and the Unagi House burger.

The vibe: With vaulted timber-lined ceilings, truffle trees outside and an enormous stone fireplace inside, Beltana Farm is cosy, chic and relaxing – where nature and luxury meet for an unforgettable meal.

What to order: Beltana Farm serves a gourmet, farm-style shared menu that celebrates the best produce of the local region. Constantly evolving, the Beltana farm damper with macadamia dukkha and the ANZAC biscuit cheesecake served with Pialligo honey are both notable mentions from the menu.

The vibe: Wall-to-wall dramatic Mexican vibrancy. Loud, proud and a little bit chaotic, there’s something happening everywhere you look. Think: neon red lights in the shape of skulls. Enough said.

What to order: The tacos. All of them. Any of them. They all involve a lot of cheese, a lot of sauce, and a lot of whatever floats your boat in the middle.

The vibe: A trip to Tokyo without leaving Canberra with handcrafted furniture, exposed concrete accents, neon’s and a very cool floating noodle installation.

What to order: The rich, creamy Tonkotsu; the velvety chicken-based Tori Paitan; the umami-filled Shoyu Miso; and the innovative Ebi Curry. All of them are good, and all of them deserve a spot on your social feed.
