Canberra’s cult-favorite teahouse is finally heading south: Adore Tea lands in Woden
Posted on
Adore Tea is opening in a brand-new location, offering southsiders the tea-infused food that gained its Mitchell boutique such a loyal following.
Furzer Street in Phillip will become the latest hot spot for tea lovers as Adore Tea Teahouse & Boutique throws open its doors on Saturday 30 May, inviting southsiders to indulge in exquisite teas and tea-infused sweets and savouries.
The newest addition to the Adore Tea family, the Woden Teahouse joins the Mitchell boutique, which owners Aman and Nasreen Palekar opened after moving the business from Weston Creek in 2017. The expansion marks two major milestones for the couple: 20 years since it first opened and 11 years since the couple took over.
“We invested in this business and migrated from overseas. Then we got the opportunity to buy this business…we didn’t think twice about it,” says Aman.
“We had to go through a lot of ups and downs, but we didn’t give up.”
Growing Adore Tea into what it is today – a boutique teahouse experience designed specifically with tea lovers in mind – the business has become one of Australia’s largest multi-award-winning specialty tea boutique companies. It’s been beloved by locals for decades, and the new Woden teahouse is the next step in that journey for the Palekar family.
With a fresh fit-out that’s light, bright and effortlessly elegant, Adore Tea Woden will be offering the full menu, including favourites like the tea-infused quiche, scones with tea-infused jam and clotted cream, and wraps with tea-infused chicken.

Dietary requirements are also looked after, with a dedicated kids’ menu alongside plenty of gluten- and dairy-free options – including gluten-free scones.
As for drinks? Sparkling iced teas, Tea Shakes (topped with ice-cream and whipped cream) and LaTEA’s are highlights, along with the Orange Mojito (infused with Red Dawn Tea) and Pina Colada (infused with Pina Colada tea).
And while it is a teahouse, Adore Tea also serves coffee, which they’ll be brewing from 7 am Monday to Friday and 8 am Saturday and Sunday.
Open until 6 pm during the week and 5 pm on weekends, Aman says the hope for the extended hours is to catch the hungry and thirsty office workers in the area, morning, noon and evening.
With a menu stacked full of options that can be eaten there or taken away – including a roasted veg panini, chicken salad croissant and salted caramel macadamia cookie – there’s plenty to entice people to pop in.
But while they specialise in breakfast and brunch options, the Phillip location will be offering something a little bit different to Mitchell: they’ll also be opening for dinner.
“Once we settle down with timings and have enough staff to handle it, we’ll open for dinner. We’ve never done this before, but we’ve done lots of events,” explains Aman.
“Everybody loved that food…so we said, ‘Let’s do it in the evening’.”

With a café area that seats 60 to 80 people, along with a space that houses their retail offering (which stocks more than 250 teas, jams, tea-infused syrups and more), Aman also plans to expand to outdoor dining.
And for those itching to know whether they’ll be serving their droolworthy seasonal high teas, the answer is yes – just not yet.
“We want to settle down for a month, and then we’ll start the high teas again,” Aman says with a smile.
“We’ve already had a lot of messages on our Facebook.”
For those unwilling to wait, the scones and Devonshire Tea for Two will be available to order.
Planning to keep the extended business a family affair, Aman says they will keep blending and hand-packing loose-leaf teas in the Michell warehouse. Though she’s stepped back from the front of house at Adore Tea due to health issues, Nasreen is still constantly creating new additions to their tea offerings, updating the food menus to match.

As for the future? Planning to open teahouses in Melbourne in 2027 and Sydney, the Woden teahouse is just the beginning of a total Australian tea takeover.
We’ll happily raise a cup to that.
“The reason we can do this is because of the community support. They are fantastic. Canberrans support local businesses and we have a lot of customers coming from Yass, Murrumbateman and Bungendore,” says Aman.
“Their support is important for us.”
