All of Canberra’s new café, restaurant and bar openings in 2025

Posted on

It’s over 150 venues (and counting).

It’s been another big year in Canberra’s hospitality scene, with an abundance of openings and closures around the city. From family-run cafes to fine-dining restaurants (and everything in-between), the biggest challenge for foodies this year wasn’t finding somewhere new to eat. It was deciding where to go first!

Broken down by location, how many have you crossed off your list?

And it looks like Canberra’s next hot spot…

TUGGERANONG

Valley Pub (Waniassa)

There’s a new friendly pub and large restaurant in Canberra’s deep south which promises a new life for an old location. It’s been a complete and dramatic makeover for the site of the former Maram pub and live music venue at the Erindale shops, which was infamous across Canberra for its rowdy crowds and noisy nights and which closed in 2011 amid multiple complaints.

The brothers have also worked hard on locking down a great menu, developed by head chef, Jarrod Lord, ex-Akiba.

The food on offer is miles away from the former pub grub served there.

Ken Behrens Burgers & Cafe (Waniassa)

2020 called and it wants its niche nickname back – the Ken Behrens Café is open in Erindale. Serving breakfast and lunch items, including B&E Rolls, gourmet burgers and chicken tenders, find it at 2/33 Gartside Street, Wanniassa.
