Everything you need to know about canberra. ONE DESTINATION.

An edible weekend at Pialligo Estate

Posted on

Calling all foodies! We have your Sunday sorted.

With the forecast sunny, it’s time to get in that outdoor time that last weekend’s weather simply didn’t allow.

But if you like your sunshine with a side of oysters, award-winning bread, gelato, cannoli and perhaps a cheeky tipple or two, then we have the Sunday for you.

This weekend, Pialligo Estate will host not one but two decadent foodie events – their Farm Gate Markets and Fish Tales.

For adults and little ones alike, The Farm Gate Markets are a chance to soak up the Estate’s rural atmosphere, with market stalls and activities held on the main paddock. With a range of local stallholders showcasing gourmet food, wine and spirits, and live music throughout the day there will be something for everyone.

And that’s before you get to the food.

There on the day will be Stockman Sticks Beef Jerky, Three Mills Bakery’s award-winning bread and pastries, Tea Garden Co, Le Petit Breton’s crepes, Sandro’s gelato, The Pop Inn’s selection of local tipples, Nellie’s Cafe & Bar for coffee and more, the Kurbside Kitchen’s Spiral Spuds, La Empanada’s hand warming delicacies, Cracking Corn’s caramel popcorn, the Cannoli Brothers’ decadent morsels, Majura Valley Honey’s liquid gold and let’s not forget the gourmet hosts themselves, Pialligo Estate with their wine, food and hampers.

But wait, there’s more.

Fish Tales is a new initiative which brings the coast to Canberra. Inside the Estate’s Glasshouse you’ll have the chance to talk to the catchers and growers about how they catch or produce such amazing seafood, try their catch and enjoy a few tasty beverages.

A combination of market stalls, masterclasses, tastings and other attractions, Fish Tales is a not-to-miss event for seafood lovers.

Director of Fish Tales John Susman has been catching, processing, selling, marketing and mostly eating seafood professionally for the past 30 years. Having worked across all aspects of the industry from catcher to cook to critic, John is well placed to work with every stakeholder in the supply chain to dream up the best way to get their catch to market and the best products into the best restaurants.

As founder of the legendary Flying Squid Brothers, Australia’s first truly vertically integrated catching and processing seafood business, Susman has maintained a close love affair with all things wet, cold, smelly and slimy. As a seafood judge, commentator and author, Susman released the Australian Fish and Seafood Cookbook with a group of fishy chums in 2016, to critical acclaim.
