Salut! Four ways to celebrate Bastille Day in Canberra

With July 14 around the corner, we’re exploring all the ways to say Vive La France this Bastille Day. 

Bastille Day is the French national holiday celebrating ‘Liberté égalité fraternité’ but don’t worry, there won’t be any test of your Francaise at these events.

Instead, there will just be maximum indulgence in the absolute best of French culture, cheese, wine and cuisine. Votre sante!

The Boat House

The Boat House are offering an exquisite “Modern French” dinner that will feature delicious local truffles from The Truffle Farm and beautiful French wine. Head chef John Levernik and sommelier Kate Hibberson will talk about the French influences in the menu and share some interesting details with guests.

This luxurious dinner will be accompanied by délicieux French cheeses presented by Olivier Bruge, cheese expert from the Mart Delicatessen. Olivier will share some history on this famous day with guests and will advise on the “correct and courteous” way to cut the cheese and the evening will feature beautiful styling by Lean Timms and French music, bien sur.

Buvette Bistro and Wine Bar is lucky enough to have their very own French Executive Chef, who will spoil all guests with an indulgent a French style four-course dinner on Friday 14 July. Starting with pacific oysters, apple and truffle, the main course will follow with Pressed Duck confit and double-baked Comte cheese and truffle soufflé.

Buvette offers two options for the dessert that includes a beautiful selection of gourmet French-style cheeses. Choose a bottle of French wine to accompany your dinner or purchase Furphy beer or a glass or bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Brut NV Champagne.

Enjoy live entertainment and Buvette’s signature cocktail the Lillet Mode De Vie for your very special evening.

Venture to Pialligo for an exceptional dinner at the Glasshouse at Pialligo Estate. Guests will enjoy a glass of champagne on arrival and exquisite French food – three courses of it to be exact and there will also be Moulin Rouge inspired entertainment. The belle Les Bistronomes restaurant in Braddon has prepared a special menu for Friday 14. Their four-course dinner will include pork rillettes en croute with parsley and garlic snail, a French onion soup with Gruyere and classic French beef Bourgogne.

These delicious treats will be followed up with cherry clafoutis for dessert and matched with fine French wines. Bon appetit!
