Cheese soft serve anyone? Five things you need to put in your mouth right now

Posted on

Here at HerCanberra, we know a thing or two about good food.

So, when we say that you NEED to put something in your mouth, you better sit up and listen. Here’s the scoop on some of the food in Canberra that’s recently blown our minds and tickled our tastebuds.

The Cheese Soft Serve from Lolo and Lola

Lolo and Lola have done it again – they have a brand-new food offering that made our cheese-mad Associate Editor Emma Macdonald so excited she almost dropped her phone: a Filipino Keso (cheese) soft serve. You read that right. And it really is the best of both worlds…unless you’re lactose intolerant. Sorry.

While we haven’t tried it yet, we predict it’ll be the perfect creamy, cheesy treat for anyone who dreams of eating cheese for every meal – including dessert. If that’s not enough, you can also order a ube soft serve, and if you can’t decide between the two, you can combine the flavours.

We don’t know how long it’ll be available, so you better run to get your hands on this.

Literally any of the noodle dishes from Lim Peh Wan Tan Mee

They’re the noodles that broke the internet and if you haven’t been to Lim Peh Wan Tan Mee in Verity Lane yet, you need to get there ASAP, because May is their last month in the market before they officially finish their residency.

Serving “unapologetically authentic and affordable Singaporean noodle dishes” (which our Managing Editor Bea Smith says is some of the best she’s put in her mouth), the authentic taste of Singapore each of their dishes on offer is the perfect antidote to a cold autumn day in Canberra.

Keep an eye out for what they’re planning on doing next, cause we’re hoping to have the hot goss soon.

This dish from Cicada Bar was an all-round team favourite so trust us when we say that the Maki Sushi from Cicada Bar needs to go on your foodie bucket list.

While the sushi itself was amazing, it’s the aji Amarillo (which is made from a Peruvian yellow chilli pepper) sauce on top that we still talk about with reverence. The HerCanberra team can’t get this meal off our minds, so you need to get it in your mouth.

Turkey. Bacon. Avocado. Cheddar. Lettuce. Tomato. Cucumber. Mayo. Brown bread. This sandwich is so loaded it should come with a warning sign.

Packed full of fresh and healthy flavours, the Cali Club is made on the spot and it’s the overflowing sandwich you didn’t know you needed in your life (but you do). Think of it as the perfect lunch pick-me-up without any of the guilt. We do.

The Saganaki from Kivotos Wine Bar

What can we say? We love cheese and the pan-seared kefalotyri with pistachio dukkah and honey vinegar from Kivotos Wine Bar is so moreish that you’ll thank us after the first bite.

It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty, and one might not be enough. And while the whole menu at Kivotos is full of authentic Greek flavours (try the Share The Love Menu to taste it all), if you can only try one or two things, we recommend popping this one at the top of this list.
