Eight places where the vibes are just as good as the menu

Canberra has no shortage of incredible foodie spots! But sometimes you’re after a place that is more than just the food or drink.
Whether it be an extraordinary view, décor that transports you somewhere new, or a theme that’s been committed to right down to the drinks, Canberra has it all.
Here are eight places to check out the next time you want to enjoy an experience with your food and drink!
Purple Rain Café (Campbell)

This groovy little café will see you sipping on specialty coffee while tapping your foot along to some great music played through the in-store record player! So, whether you want to BYO vinyl to share with the other customers or pick from the store’s selection, this is certainly a place that knows how to commit to a theme.

Tilley’s Devine Café Gallery (Lyneham)

Slide into one of their old-fashioned booths and relax in a room filled with elegant, dark wood fittings and a moody maroon colour scheme. A fun fact: Tilley’s was initially established to create a safe and comfortable environment for women, with groups of men banned from drinking inside unless they were accompanied by at least one woman! The door policy was maintained for two years after they opened in 1984.

White Rabbit Cocktail Room (City)

Good luck picking just one novelty cocktail here – each sounding more tempting than the last. Lean back into plush velvet couches and sip on a sweet after dinner drink. With the projector playing classic black and white cartoon shorts, you’ll soon feel like you’ve stepped back in time to a very classy bar.

Anyone for a meal surrounded in a luscious green garden? With several spaces to relax in, all the worries of work will be long forgotten, replaced with thoughts of delicious food and what plant you’ll buy from the nursery. Rodney’s loves local growers and suppliers, meaning they buy as many local products as possible. Enjoy some poached eggs knowing they’re from Majura Valley Egg Farm!

Pulp Book Café (Gold Creek)

What better way to spend a chilly winter’s day then inside a bookstore café? With some Alice in Wonderland characters scattered on the walls outside, you’ll feel like you’ve just stepped into a book. Pulp is known for their Portuguese Tarts but they have an all-day breakfast and lunch menu with dinner on the table now too!

Cartel Taqueria (Belconnen)

Not only are these some of the best tacos you’ll sink your teeth into in Canberra, but you’ll also feel like you’ve been suddenly transported to Mexico with the décor. From the roof to the floor, this is certainly a place that’s gone all in with the theme. Perfect place to fill an empty stomach and to snap some great photos to post after!

Anyone for a cold one in the building where it was brewed? Capital Brewing Co. will meet those hopes and dreams! With an outdoor beer garden featuring over 20 delicious beers on tap for summer and a cosy fireplace inside the brewery for winter, you’ll find the perfect place all season round to enjoy a locally made drink.

Brindabella Hills Winery (Wallaroo)

Stunning views of the Brindabellas while enjoying locally produced wine? I’ll raise a glass to that! Enjoy a two-course lunch paired with sensational wines, or just come for a wine tasting to sample the best of the best. No matter where you sit, you’ll be greeted by a view, with their winery and vineyards set amongst rolling hills and overlooking the picturesque Murrumbidgee River. Sounds like a divine way to spend a day!
