They had us at ‘Sparkling Wine Wall’ – Verity Lane’s events hit different

Posted on

Some events are forgettable – the kind where guests show up, eat some finger food, make polite conversation, and leave without much to remember.

Then there are the celebrations that become stories people tell for years, the ones where someone inevitably says, “Remember that party where…” But what transforms an ordinary gathering into something that makes guests pause and think, “now this is different”?

At Verity Lane Market, that wow factor comes in many forms, including a sparkling wine wall. Yes, you read that right.

According to Jessica Ferrall, Senior Event Sales Manager at Verity Lane Market, it’s about “point of difference and going above and beyond to a place the client may not even be expecting.”

“It is a little special to be welcomed into a space where the sparkling wine, mocktail, or maybe even a spritz, is already flowing,” she explains. “Everyone loves choice and having a little offering right at the start of a function just gives that extra touch, letting your guests know you’ve thought about them and want to welcome them into your event with style.”

Verity Lane’s sparkling wine wall isn’t just Instagram eye-candy (though it absolutely is that) – it’s a psychological reset that signals from the moment guests arrive that this gathering will be different from every other function they’ve attended. The wall itself is clear acrylic, designed to be set against flower walls, velvet curtains, or even personalised banners as backdrops, creating those perfect photo opportunities that get everyone talking.

But Verity Lane’s events flair extends far beyond their signature wall installation.

Whether it’s marking personal milestones, celebrating achievements, or simply gathering loved ones for a special occasion, people are seeking venues that offer more than just four walls and basic catering. At Verity Lane, this might mean games, karaoke, DJ hire, outdoor marquee, roving magician, and excellent staff execution – all within spaces that inspire rather than merely accommodate.

Walking into the heritage spaces of the Sydney Building immediately transports guests away from generic function centres and into something with genuine character.

“The history of the space and often the look of astonishment for the Canberra locals as they try to figure out the last time they were in the venue; was it The Private Bin, North Bar, or ICBM?” Jessica notes with a laugh.

For those newer to Canberra, the experience is equally captivating. “Walking into Market Hall is a very unique feeling as you explore our vendor kitchens full of Canberra small businesses offering a little of their heritage to our own,” she says.

It’s this blend of nostalgic recognition and fresh discovery that immediately shifts the energy from standard celebration to something genuinely special.

The venue’s two distinct spaces cater to different celebration styles. The Juliet Room offers elegance with its soft white curtains, natural light, curved bar, and dedicated outdoor balcony – perfect for intimate gatherings, birthday dinners, or engagement parties where conversation flows as freely as the champagne.

Meanwhile, Louie Louie pays homage to its many past lives with exposed Canberra red brick, paint on pillars from various nightclub eras, and festoon lights that soften the industrial aesthetic.

“They are very different, but we’re creating spaces that encourage a wide range of styles and themes for events,” Jessica explains.

The food situation deserves special mention because, let’s face it, most function centre catering feels like an afterthought. Verity Lane’s partnership with their Market Hall vendors changes this equation entirely.

“We’re very proud to have so many diverse backgrounds and cultures in Market Hall, and it is one of our main points of difference with our catering options,” Jessica says. “These kitchens are making food from the heart, which is reflected in just how good it tastes!”

This approach to catering – featuring everything from artisanal grazing platters perfect for cocktail-style celebrations to sophisticated multi-course menus for milestone birthdays – means guests actually look forward to the food rather than enduring it. The diversity of options reflects Canberra’s multicultural dining scene, giving events an authentically local flavour that generic caterers simply can’t match.

And when it comes to entertainment, Verity Lane has solved the eternal party planning dilemma: getting people to actually engage with each other beyond polite small talk. The introduction of giant games like cornhole, ring toss, and oversized Jenga creates natural icebreakers that work whether your guests are colleagues, cousins, or complete strangers meeting for the first time.

“Everyone is a little competitive, right?” Jessica observes. “While not everyone is fan of getting on a dancefloor, having these games in place gives everyone an opportunity to challenge each other. Who will topple the giant Jenga over first? A round of drinks might be on the line, and who gets to have the bragging rights for the rest of the night!”

Perhaps most importantly, Jessica understands that venues with character inspire different behaviour from guests.

“When you choose a venue that has a little more character and stories behind it, guests will naturally begin telling their own stories and sharing more of themselves with each other,” she explains.

In a city full of generic function spaces, Verity Lane proves that celebrations can be sophisticated, engaging, and genuinely fun – sometimes all at once.

And that sparkling wine wall we talked about? You can get it for free for the first 50 guests if you make an EOFY booking before 30 June. Dates are booking fast – secure your spot to host a celebration your team will actually talk about on Monday.
