First Look: TAKI
Posted on
TAKI is set to open its doors on Monday 21 November bringing a chic minimalist aesthetic and contemporary Japanese a la carte menu to Canberra Centre’s emerging Tiger Lane precinct.
Introducing a curated collection of modern Asian food experiences from higher-end dining experiences to fun, lively street food, the unveiling of stage one will see the two venues helmed by acclaimed Australian chef Shaun Presland. The first of these is Taki.
Taki has a focus on Yakiniku cooked over charcoal, with local and imported Wagyu—all complemented by a contemporary Japanese a la carte menu which includes a Wagyu shabu shabu hotpot and a chicken and seafood hotpot. Those who adore the iconic Studio Ghibli creation Spirited Away are in for an extra treat: the interiors are inspired by the imaginative animated film.
Divided into three spaces, Taki features a topographic tatami to the left of the restaurant, a kitchen surrounded by fresh produce in the centre, and to the right, the main dining room. Panels of pine timber and stone finishes define the mood in the dining spaces, with sets of mirrors along the walls that merge the boundaries.
As Presland is set to become a familiar face about town as he guides the Tiger Lane precinct from concept to reality, he’s excited to finally to bring to life two of the 12 dining outlets that will bring a fresh and vibrant vibe to Canberra’s food scene.
Following Taki will be Inari, an authentic Japanese restaurant that will pay homage to Japanese 1960s retrofuturism with a retro-futuristic inspired venue menu.
“We’re so thrilled to finally open the doors to one of the most exciting food experiences in Australia.”
