Cheese expert Sam Studd to headline this winter’s Oozy Boozy Cheese and Wine Market

Many Canberrans spend their lives waiting for a certain shop or event to come to town. For the HerCanberra team, it was a wine and cheese market.

Luckily, you feta believe our wildest cheese dreams have been made a reality, with  Oozy Boozy Cheese and Wine Market landing at The Vault at Dairy Road across the King’s Birthday long weekend from 7-9 June.

Held at new all-weather indoor warehouse venue The Vault and presented in partnership with Le Cheeserie and Canberra Wines, Oozy Boozy will see market stalls laden with a decedent array of international cheeses from the hard to the soft and everything in between.

Wines hand-picked from the best of the Canberra region’s cool climate wineries will also be available for tastings – and now we can announce that in a very special event taking place on Saturday 8 June, Sam Studd of The Studd Siblings, one of Australia’s foremost cheese experts, will present an intimate cheese masterclass for one night only.

Having written his book The Best Things in Life are Cheese (amen) with sister Ellie after a lifetime spent learning from their father, icon of the cheese world Will Studd, Sam has a palate like no other and will be guiding guests through an exceptional pairing of some of the world’s best cheese and local wines, giving you a delicious insight into finding the best companions for your favourite drops.

“We are thrilled to bring Sam Studd for a one-night-only appearance,” says Alex Royds, Co-Founder of Le Cheeserie. “Having him on board allows us to offer an unmatched experience tasting exclusive cheeses paired with Canberra’s best wines narrated by Australian cheese royalty.”

Across the intimate event, each guest will indulge in a five-course cheese and butter tasting experience hand-picked by Will Studd himself and presented by the “heart-melting” Sam. Run, don’t walk to secure tickets to this exclusive foodie experience – we predict they’ll go faster than a triple cream brie on a baby shower charcuterie board.

Meanwhile, Oozy Boozy Cheese and Wine Market will take place during the daylight hours across ticketed 1.5-hour sessions with your ticket including an Italian stemless wine glass and a cheese board as well as all the samples of local wines and international cheeses your cheesy heart desires – but that’s not all.

Market treats will also include the melty deliciousness of raclette, burrata blue cheese cones (yes, like ice cream!), caviar, and decadent condiments. Naturally, your favourite wines and cheeses are yours to take home on the day.

But while this all might sound a little high-brow, Dave Caffery, Curator and Founder of event organisers Dionysus, says it’s all about making the iconic combo of cheese and wine accessible.

“Our goal is to remove the pretentiousness from the cheese and wine industry, creating a friendly and delicious market experience, in our new blank warehouse.”

“We have run Dairy Road Cellar Door for a number of years now and we wanted to add to that unique wine experience. We’ve scoured the national cheese market, and there’s nothing quite like this combination of cheese and wine in Canberra.”
