Add zing to your winter with five secret ingredients
Do you look in the fridge and despair at the thought of the same, plain…
Luckily, that’s changed.
The Pits is a sprawling outdoor street-food style pop-up that’s now dishing up Greasy goodness for eat-in and takeaway.
Located next to John McGrath Ford, just off Hindmarsh Drive in Phillip (a burger’s throw from the HerCanberra office), the site includes covered outdoor seating complete with heaters, and even some arcade games to play while you wait.
While the Greasys food truck has graced our presence before at Westfield Woden, this will be its new home—at least until they find a more permanent southside location.
“We’re really lucky to have been given access to such a central spot in Phillip,” says said Josh Holland, Grease Monkey’s Group Operations Manager.
“It’s clear from our previous truck locations in Woden that there’s a demand for Greasy food south of the city and this will be a great place holder until we can find our forever home.”
Josh credits John McGrath Ford with bringing a greasy fix to southsiders.
“It’s near impossible for food trucks to trade in the ACT unless they’re on private property, so we’re extremely grateful (and lucky) that we’ve got this spot in Phillip. The location is great and has access to parking so close you may as well yell your order from your car.”
And, if it’s too cold to yell, you can order via phone or Deliveroo.
While this new space will be perfect for summer (and physical distancing), Josh says he has high hopes for their permanent southside location.
“Our ultimate goal is to bring a bit of the Braddon experience to Woden. While our set up in Phillip is temporary, we’re constantly scouting for sites around this area that can accommodate everything that we want to do.”
“Think half-court basketball court, open-air tables and we’re even talking about a drive-in movie experience. It’ll be a work in progress but we’re really excited to be kicking things off in Phillip as we continue that search.”
Until then, you can get your Greasy fix at 103 Hindmarsh Drive, Phillip.
