Stop and smell the rosé: treat yourself to a luxury wine tour

Posted on

With custom itineraries and more than 30 cellar doors to explore, Van Du Vin tours are perfect to take some time to wine down.

Custom wine tours tailored to you? Wine not!

While there’s no denying a cheeky Pinot Gris on a Friday night is a great way to relax and catch up with friends, there’s something about going out and letting someone else take the wheel as you sit back and enjoy the ride.

That’s why Van Du Vin winery tours want to help you to stop and smell the rosé while they make the decisions for the day. Officially launching in 2020 to bring luxury to Canberra’s wine region, Van Du Vin goes further than other wine tours (literally) to some of the lesser-visited wineries around the region, offering an exclusive taste of the Canberra, Murrumbateman and the Lake George regions.

With tours starting from $200 per person, Van Du Vin launched to show locals that some of the best wine is aged to perfection in their backyard while offering a “we’ll cater to you approach” that makes each sip a whole lot sweeter.

“The main reason for starting Van Du Vin is that we wanted to show these amazing wines to as many people as possible,” says Van Du Vin founder Nathan McDowell.

“When [business partner] Corey Tiisler and I moved to Canberra from the coast three years ago for a work opportunity, we didn’t know there was such great quality wine in the Canberra Region. As we started to explore the wine region more, we fell in love with not only the great wines, but the people in this industry.”

Offering three private wine tour packages, Van Du Vin allows you to choose between a cheeky half day of wine tasting, up to an indulgent full-day food and wine tour. Each package includes luxury transport, customised itinerary, all tasting fees and lunch.

Offering three styles of intimate wine tour depending on your tastes, Van Du Vin allows you to choose between a cheeky half day of wine tasting or an indulgent full-day tour that will take you to five cellar doors in luxury transport.

Van Du Vin specialises in private tours for two to eleven guests, with weekday tours launching soon to create memorable experiences that will leave you delighted by the quality of our local cool-climate Riesling or elated by a Shiraz while snacking on a wood fire pizza from Four Winds Winery cellar door.

“We know the main reason people love wine tours is that it is a stress-free day out where all the decisions are made for you. You just need to sit back, drink some delicious wine and eat great food,” says Nathan.

“Tailoring each tour to our guests tastes in wine means we can pair them with the most suitable cellar doors,” he says.  “We know which wines are currently drinking well and the cellar doors where you have the best experiences.”

Looking for something extra special? Van Du Vin also offers the ultimate winter experience with a private, full-day gourmet Canberra winery tour which includes a truffle hunt and truffle degustation lunch at The Truffle Farm. With adorable truffle dogs, a decadent six-course lunch and a tour of three Canberra wineries it’s a rare opportunity to treat yourself to the best of Canberra’s winter.

As many of the wineries look to release their first vintage in two years, the Vin Du Van team believes exploring and talking to the local business owners is just as important as enjoying a glass of their hard work.

“The wine region in Canberra, as with most of the world, had a pretty awful 2020,” he says. “They lost the 2020 vintage due to the massive hailstorm and the smoke taint from the fires. Then COVID hit. We’d love more local people to get out there and experience the Canberra wine region.”

“It’s a nice day where you get to sit back and relax and let everything get taken care of.”

Grab a glass to beat the cold, discover boutique small-batch wines and leave with knowledge from those who work in the vineyards and make the wines.
