The Twelve Days of Canberra Christmas Cocktails

Posted on

When Mariah said all she wanted for Christmas was ‘you’, she was most-likely locking eyes with a cocktail.

To ring in the silly season—and farewell this binfire of a year—we’ve compiled a list of Canberra’s most festive cocktails to have you prancing all the way to 25 December.

Verity Lane – Nuked Negroni

When Verity Lane Market designed their signature Nuked Negroni they adapted the phrase ‘sugar and spice and all things nice’ to mean strong and slightly spiced, with characteristics of cherry and citrus.

Topped with a sprig of rosemary, you’ll be transported straight to the Christmas table.

Bar Rochford – Chaos in The CBD

Two words: Christmas shopping AKA absolute mayhem and chaos. Our friends at Bar Rochford have designed a cocktail ‘chaos in the CBD’  and we best advise that this is one for veterans of the shopping malls.

Pretty in pink and busting in flavours of rhubarb kefir, pineapple shrub and lime…would be rude not to.

Beirut Bunker Bar – The Holiday Pash

Canberra’s craft cocktail bar Beirut Bunker Bar delivers impeccable cocktails in their Parisian Chic meets the Middle East venue. To ring in the holiday season they’ve crafted ‘the holiday pash’ and let us tell you, it will be the best NYE pash we’ve ever had.

Featurning Mount Gay Eclipse rum, passionfruit, calamansi citrus and pineapple smoked with a citrus blend, we’ll be cheersing to the holiday season and kicking 2020 away with this one.

The Howling Moon – The Pav

Inspired by our national treasure, the pavlova, this bad boy is the spirit of Christmas in a glass.

Featuring meringue and all the favourite toppings including passionfruit, strawberry and mint, it’s possibly too good to drink.

The Tipsy Bull – The Blood Diamond

The chances of getting some diamonds for Christmas are low—but the chances of getting a little tipsy at Tipsy Bull are high!

Our favourite, The Blood Diamond, is a marvelous concoction of 7K raspberry gin, Solerno blood orange, lime oleo, orange bitters and a generous squeeze of lemon. Olé!

White Rabbit Room – The Caterpillar

Who said the magic of Christmas can’t still exist for us oldies? Drinking this cocktail feels like you’re walking through a magical overgrown garden.

Tanqueray gin, Massenez Violettes, St Germain and lemon shaken with house-made lavender and vanilla bean syrup and topped with a generous pour of Italian prosecco and served tall with sour worms.

Yes—you heard us right, sour worms. Santa may not exist but this cocktail does and that’s good enough for us.

Queenies – Helen Reddy

Get the ladies together and celebrate Friendmas at Queenies, Canberra’s newest bar that celebrates misbehaved women of history.

Our recommendation for all the women of Canberra smashing the patriarchy is the Helen Reddy. Featuring 1800 Blanco Tequila, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Autonomy Davidson Plum Aperitivo and lemon, it’s the perfect cocktail to celebrate an excellent woman.

The Inn – Aperol Spritz

It’s a classic, but there’s a good reason why. Our Italian favourite Aperol Spritz is a summertime staple, and they’re best consumed overlooking the charming rooftops of Canberra’s Inner North at The Inn.

Simple but delicious—Aperol, Prosecco and a touch of soda to finish. The only thing left to say is Salute!

The Dock – Mojito Punch

Would it really be Christmas without the Christmas punch? The Dock are slinging up delicious jugs of fruity strawberry and passionfruit mojitos. Perfect for warmer nights and a Christmas Sunday sesh.
is one.

This is for all those who don’t want to head out or are just too sick of Christmas shopping to hit the bars.

All you need is some deliciously local The Canberra Distillery Sloe Gin, raspberries, ice and elderflower tonic water. Divine.

Pilot – Non Alcoholic Cocktail Experience

Expecting mummas, designated drivers and those who don’t drink don’t need to miss out on the silly season fun as one of Canberra’s best restaurants, Pilot, has you covered.

Offering a completly non-alcoholic paired menu, we’ve heard it may even give the alcoholic version a run for its money.

The menu changes daily, however, but past cocktails included a beetroot juice, verjus and loads or aromatics just to give you an idea.
