Grease Monkey to open at Marketplace Gungahlin next week

Posted on

Northsiders rejoice! Grease Monkey will open its second Canberra restaurant in Marketplace Gungahlin’s new Laneway precinct next week.

Oh yes, Gungahlinite foodies, your time has come. Next Tuesday 28 April from 11 am, Grease Monkey Gungahlin will open in The Laneway, Marketplace Gungahlin’s new food precinct.

Although you won’t be able to pop in for a proper visit just yet.

Given current COVID restrictions, Grease Monkey Gungahlin will only be offering takeaway and delivery at first, but say that once restrictions are lifted, patrons will get the full Greasy experience.

“We know it’s a tough time at the moment for everyone in Canberra, but we’ve been blown away by the support we’ve been getting in Braddon and for our food truck in Woden,” says GM’s managing director, Nick Tuckwell.

“Without this support from our town, we wouldn’t be able to open the doors on our new venue and we’re hoping Gungahlin gets behind us as well.”

Luckily, this new outpost has given Greasy’s the opportunity to keep on as many staff as possible in these tough times.

“We’re lucky that we’re able to give some of our people a new job that they might not otherwise have had, which is really satisfying for us at the moment,” says Nick.

“We want to thank everyone for their continued support, from those who order our food, to our staff working behind the counter or grill. “

Since opening on Lonsdale Street in 2015, Grease Monkey has served more than one million of their signature burgers, introducing Detroit-style pizza to their offerings last year.

Once restrictions are lifted, northsiders will be given the full Greasy experience, with room for 150 people, a cosy beer garden built for all seasons, live sport on big-screen TVs, eight craft beer and cider taps, a curated wine list, shake specials and live DJs.

The exterior showcases custom street art from local graffiti artist Geoff Filmer of Graffik Paint and provides the perfect connection from the Marketplace to Gungahlin Place.
