Saint Malo embarks on a new chapter as Canberra’s premier catering and events destination

Posted on

After years of elevating Canberra’s dining scene,  Saint Malo and Alia are evolving to meet the changing needs of the city.

As of February 16th, the venues will close their doors to the public and reopen as Saint Malo Catering and Functions, a bespoke catering and events service.

This strategic transformation is driven by the upcoming Light Rail Stage 2A project, which will impact local businesses in the area. Rather than resisting change, Saint Malo’s owner, Rulla Bakri, has seized the opportunity to innovate and expand the business.

“We’re excited to bring our signature Mediterranean cuisine and exceptional service to a wider audience,” says Rulla. “Our new catering and events service will offer customized solutions for corporate functions, weddings, and social gatherings, both on and off-site.”

Saint Malo Catering and Functions will boast an impressive portfolio of five unique event spaces, including the elegant Alia, Saint Malo, Templo Theatre, Rito, and Saint Malo’s charming courtyard, Gardino. Each space will be available for exclusive hire, offering unparalleled flexibility and sophistication and some of the most luxe settings for special events.

“We’re committed to delivering seamless, unforgettable events that exceed our clients’ expectations. Our team of skilled chefs, event coordinators, and hospitality experts are dedicated to providing exceptional service and attention to detail.”

But for those who have loved taking over a curved booth in Saint Malo and ordering up some of their iconic paella, there are still a few days left to book one final farewell dining experience. Tables are open until February 15th (and yes, lovebirds, that means you can still score a reservation by booking here for Valentine’s Day?).

Similarly, if you need one more baklava cocktail from Alia to wash down your slow-cooked lamb gyros, then book here.
